scotty (743), Scotland Jul 27, 2006 The Steinhof I tried claimed to have been brewed & canned in Germany! It didn’t state a brewer, only "Andre Simon Agencies" It was a pretty poor example of a pils lager, very light and, well bland! Slightly grassy/hoppy on the finish, and that was it! Not a repeat purchase I fear! Brownlies grocer in Biggar. ALLOVATE (1127), Perth, Australia Mar 14, 2005 Almost fooled me for a German Pilsner, until I tasted it!! Poured (canned) a pale straw body, with a loose and rocky head of foam. Grassy and yeasty aroma, very subtle. In the mouth, metallic hops dominated a thin, highly carbonated mouth feel. Grainy and husky mid palate, minimal sweet malt tones, mildly soapy, and finishes with a short, bitter and dry swallow. Unusually, it got better as I downed it, but that could just be me becoming lazier. Typical Macro-slosh. mutant (839), Melbourne, Australia Jun 12, 2004 Standard lager appearance, small dissipating head. Aroma of aluminium. Flavour of rudimentary stale malt and quick, harsh bitterness. Pretty awful Pub (4103), Banbury, Oxfordshire, England Jun 12, 2004 Tinned. Pale gold with forced head, highly carbonated. It appears that few of the Thwaites tinned range carry their name and I can see why, this is an overboiled concoction with stewed malt flavour and a chemical sharp on the tonge note. Thin throughout, probably a way of getting alcohol into the system without much concern about flavour. rauchbier (2874), Isle Of Beer, Lincolnshire, England Mar 21, 2004 Updated: Jun 12, 2004Can, known in the UK as Stein Pils. Gold, poor shortlived white head and moderate condition. Initial whiff of sulphur and corn gives way to low malt and, if its possible, tap water in the nose. Oily on the lips, some malt and adjunct in the mouth giving a nasty mouthfeel that is bitter but not hoppy and slightlty fruity. Rough harsh bitter finish. Tastes like the typical English attempt at lager.
