Ah, where would we be in the UK without wife-beater? A beer of last resort, to be honest, only to be sampled if faced with Scottish real ales (the ghastly Deuchars, for example) or the usual pissy lagers such as Carlsberg, Carling, etc. Its looks are its strong point - think the colour of piss when you’re dehydrated, with a reasonable white head. After that, it is all downhill. Horrible skunk aroma, little or no hops, metallic after-taste. Avoid if possible. 1010 (212), Marysville, Ohio, USA

Better tasting than US macros, which was my only alternative, but doesn’t compare to micros. Had a sweeter aftertaste than other lagers, which was the one redeeming quality. cgreb (180), Marburg, Germany

| 2.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 2/5 | 11/20 | Sep 13, 2008 Had today at Buffalos in Coral Springs. Well this doesnt rate well, but it certainly beats the hell out of any American macro and so I choose to drink it when nothing else decent is on tap. Sparkling yellow pour, small white head. Funky aroma of malts. Flavor is unique, but very malty...kinda funky, but almost in a good way. Drinkable. DrDavid (957), Johnson, Vermont, USA
| 3.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 12/20 | Sep 7, 2008 (Bottle, brewed at Belgium brewery). Sweet grassy aroma. Very light golden color with a substantial fluffy white head. Taste is like a mild pilsener, some maltiness, bread and yeast, but only a faint bitterness. The sweetness is unusual, and pleasing. Better than expected. bsm80 (144), Massapequa, New York, USA
| 1.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 2/10 | 2/5 | 4/10 | 1/5 | 9/20 | Sep 7, 2008 Golden pint had lasting head and a nice flavor for it’s type. A bit too light for me, but balanced. Finish is too bitter; a pretty simple beer. zappafan99 (463), South Carolina, USA

Aroma: Mild almost odorless. Tiny amount of malt. Taste: Intentionally bland. Clean, bright and better than most of this style of beer. Beer for people who don’t like beer. rampmaster (322), Alden, New York, USA
| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 5/5 | 14/20 | Sep 4, 2008 Updated: Sep 5, 2008Presentation: It was poured from green 11.2oz. bottle into a tulip glass that is similar in size and shape of a signature Stella Artois glass.
Appearance: It has a nice light golden color with very good clarity and a good amount of visible champaign like carbonation. On top it forms a big fluffy head that slowly settles and leaves very little to no lace.
Smell: The aroma has a delicate floral and grassy nose.
Taste/Mouth feel: It has a delicate flavor as well as its aroma. There is a mild sweetness that is balanced by light floral, almost fruity and mildly bitter hops. This mild flavor can become skunked very easily so look for as fresh a sample as possible. Its body is light and the finish is crisp and dry. The texture is slightly slick and thin with lively carbonation that makes it very easy to drink.
Notes: A good fresh Stella well have a good delicate and somewhat dry flavor that pairs well with food in place of dry white wine.
