Commercial Description:
We aged our stout in a Jim Beam barrel for 3 months. Poured through our nitro/CO2 tap, the bourbon flavor is complimented by the coffee & chocolate notes in our stout. Oaky aromas are coupled with vanilla in the nose. Super smooth & dangerously drinkable.

2008 version on tap at Stewarts. I was never a fan of stewarts highlander stout and this one didnt make me change my mind. Dark black followed by a big head and good lacing. Aroma was a weak malt smell. Flavor was just like their Highlander stout with a touch of vanilla and bourbon. Just an OK beer. Something about the light texture of the beer bothered me, even though I dont know what it is. It is not bad, just not to my liking...

June 2005 - Another fine seasonal offering from Stewarts. I sampled this from two of my dad’s pints and it was a fine offering. Poured dark brown with smallish creamy head. Left a little lacing on the glass. This is the first beer I could taste where I could really taste the alcohol (bourbonesque taste, go figure) that I really enjoyed. It’s a souped up version of the Highlander Stout (which is also quite tasty, imo). Strong roasted malt with coffee flavor balanced quite nicely. If you are a Stout guy in the Newark/Bear, DE area, go grab one of these quickly before they are gone.

Appears a pitch black with a mahogany hue glowing at the bottom of the glass. A Frothy, light tan head fades into a mild, silky cap. Scattered lacing is left around the glass. Smell is of roasty nuts, American oak, bourbon, caramel, vanilla, ripe dark fruit, raisins, brown sugar, and light cocoa. Taste is of the mentioned aromas with a resounding bourbon and raisin flavor dominating. Mouthfeel is smooth, sweet, medium bodied, semi-dry, settling on the middle of the tongue with a grapey raisin flavor that lingers along the palate. I’m really digging these bourbon barrel brews that Ric’s been doing. I’m dissapointed that I just missed the Freightzenbock(bourbon barrel weizenbock) but I look forward to the next one.

Poured an opaque black color with a medium sized, tan head that left nice lacing on the glass. Aroma of bourbon, roasted malts, light vanilla and smoke. Taste of roasted malts and chocolate, light vanilla beans, more smoke and a dry bourbon bite in the end.
