Commercial Description:
Stiegl-Weizengold is proof positive that we at the Stiegl Brewery in Salzburg are just as much experts at brewing "weissbier" as the Bavarians: Stiegl-Weizengold. 12 ° original gravity, 5.3 % alcohol by volume, finest ingredients, top-fermenting process. All of these are responsible for top quality and an unmistakable flavour. Stiegl-Weizengold is available in two types, the lighter-coloured "Hefefein" and the darker "Dunkel". "Hefefein" weissbier from Salzburg, is refreshing, untreated and invigorating. Brewed by Brauerei Riegele, Augsburg, Germany under supervision of the Stiegl Brauerei.

Pale malt yeasty, earthy aroma. Dark yellow color with that big bold head. Soft texture in the mouthfeel, smooth a little creamy. Missing is the crisp clean, citrus wheat notes of a true hefe. Very drinkable but missing the body of a ayinger or weistephaner.

500 ml bottle. From Salzburg, Austria.
Hazy dark orange colour with big white head. Sweetish aroma with caramel, wheat, malt, citrus, coriander and some other spices. Delicious aroma is somewhere between Weißbier and Witbier. Flavour is caramel sweet with notes of bitter hoppiness, wheat and citrus twist. I can really say this is good.

Bottle. Cloudy semi-opaque yellow with white foam. Aroma and flavor have nice strong fruit notes and spices. The carbonation is too high for me, and the finish is not very complex. There’s some sweetness and caramel in the flavor that is interesting.

Bottled. Golden coloured. Hazy. Dense white head. Spice, fruits and light vegetables in the aroma. Flavour is a bit bland. Yeast, spice and fruits is what comes to mind. Quite thin bodied. Ends on a very light citric spicyness. Definately not a top notch hefe.

(bottle) Cloudy, orange colour with a huge cream-coloured foamy head. Yeasty and clove-spicy aroma with sweet malt and a light to moderate wheat-character. Bitter and slightly sweet flavour, light to medium bodied with a spritzy carbonation. Yeasty and clove-spicy, moderately wheaty taste with restrained banana-fruity notes; moderately fruity and wheaty finish with marked spicy notes. Not that balanced and mediocre Weizen (07.VIII.09).

At the brewery. Clowdy orange colored beer with a strong white head. Typical Weizen. Nothing special at all.

Bottle: Boring, a below average Hefe nothing Fein here. Food Pairing: A Wiener Schnitzel. Got nothing else to say.
