zootfinster (151), Chicago, Illinois, USA Nov 27, 2007 Take a really great oatmeal stout and add a little water. Now you have Stockyards Oatmeal Stout. A nice beer overall but almost tastes a little watered down. There are much better out there but this is still an OK brew

Dark thick brown with no lasting head. Smell is light dirt, earthy, sweet malt and roasted coffee. Flavor is sweet and dirt-like as well. It has a sweet dusty finish. Mouthfeel is decent but a hint on the lower carbonation side. EithCubes (1751), Indiana, USA Jul 8, 2008 Bottle. Very roasty nose (coffee and grain), some acidity and milky sweetness. Black pour with Coke edges and a light brown head. Roasty taste has some very nice burnt, black notes and a little ash. Lightly sweet with coffee and lots of creamer, light bitterness. Hazelnut and faint chocolate. Light-medium body is for the most part smooth. Just a touch of oat in the body, but not enough to call oily. Not a lot of fruit here, but this is a very fun session and well worth seeking out at a Trader Joe’s. Cheap, too! Gachupines (243), USA Jul 1, 2008 Black with a tan head. Aroma is roasted coffee. Taste is also roasted, almost burnt. A little malt in the finish. Overall, body is a bit thin for the style. Decent, but much better stouts can be found. gueuze_is_god (87), Graham, North Carolina, USA Jun 28, 2008 12oz bottle- pours with an aggressive head that fades back to a bead with a bit of sticky lace. Smells of roasted barley, hops, a little smoky. Taste is medium roast, slightly chocolatey, a bit malty with good hop underpinnings- creamy mouthfeel, smooth dinking. Maybe a little to the lighter side, but still has presence (i’ve had much weaker oaties) Good beer that I would buy again. lb4lb (1267), Austin, Texas, USA Jun 24, 2008 Bottle in trade from SPLITGRIN. Thanks!
Pours mostly black with a medium lived fizzy tan head. Smell is roasty and nicely creamy too. Hint of coffee perhaps. Taste is roasty, lightly of coffee and nicely bittersweet, and lightly burnt tasting. Body is medium with normal carbonation.
Overall a solid sweet stout, I thought.
