Amber color, thin head, light citrus hoppy aroma. Not much bitterness to match the hoppy flavor. Fairly light bodied, refreshing. Could use a bit more malt and a bit more alcohol. bb (2919), Martinez, California, USA
| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Aug 4, 2004 Draft. Coppery beer with a thin white head. Not as hoppy of an aroma as many IPA’s. Summer fruit flavors with some malt backing. Good balance and a nice creamy mouthfeel. omnivore (270), San Francisco, California, USA
| 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 1/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Aug 26, 2003 Poured a coppery gold with a creamy white head. Hoppy aroma with overtones of malty sweetness. Light bitter beginning with a malty explosion that hits you like a ton of... well... malt. Finishes quickly with a strong bitter that fades into the faintest sensation at the back of your tongue. A fine IPA. beerguy101 (3946), Newark, California, USA
| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Aug 21, 2003 Medium gold color. Medium head. Aroma is grassy and floral. A medium bodied IPA. Malts are fruity and slightly sweet. Hops are fairly bitter, grapefruity and floral. Leans a little toward the malt sweetness. Smooth taste. Mouthfeel is full and round. Finish is clean and crisp. Aftertaste is slightly bitter. ultraspank (866), Dublin, Ohio, USA
| 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 5/5 | 16/20 | Jul 22, 2003 Arrived in Sunnyvale on the 17th, and headed straight to Stoddards based on a recommendation from the kind peeps in the Ratebeer forum. This was my second selection after I cleansed my palate. I enjoyed a superb veggie quesadia (sp?) with this. This brew pours from the tap a clear medium copper. The average tight off white head is fully lasting with decent lacing. The nose is pine and flowers. The taste is very well balanced for the style. Toasty start followed by a sweetish middle and a long toasted bitter finish. Not super complex but the refreshing balance makes up for it. Could use some more spice and acidity. The palate is medium to full, soft and creamy and finishes clean. I'm not sure what "American Style" means, but if it is in reference to the "Bigger is Better" philosophy, than it would be a misnomer in this case. Though a solid offering, this is a small IPA. jazz88 (2237), San Francisco, California, USA
| 2.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 2/5 | 11/20 | Oct 29, 2002 Tap. Dark golden color with a nice white head. Lots of hops makes it quite bitter. I found this beer sort of odd in how quickly it dies. A little too watery.
