Commercial Description:
A new Vertical Epic will be released every year, with the goal being to collect them all and have a Vertical Epic tasting once the final Epic is released on 12/12/12. Each new Stone Vertical Epic Ale will be release one YEAR, one MONTH and one DAY apart. Vertical Epic 02/02/02 was not brewed "to style". Instead, we tried to create something new. It's triple-ish in nature, with wit character, coriander and orange peel, and has way more hops than either a Belgian triple or a Wit would. Belgian yeast was used. Belgian Strong Ale is the closest category that fits -- Greg Koch, Stone Brewing CEO. In addition, we are pleased to provide the homebrewing recipe: http://stonebrew.com/timeline/020202

Undated Notes: Pours orange with a thin white head. Smells of coriander, honey, some cardboard. Tastes of up front sweet citrus and coriander with some earthines on the finish.

Bottle courtesy of Sk8viking. Pours a hazy orange color with a small longlasting white head. Has a spicy yeasty coriander and orange aroma. Sweetish malty spicy yeasty flavor with some bitter hints. Has a dry spicy coriander finish with some yeasty hints.

Bomber shared by LagunitasFan, sampled at J&J’s Friday the 13th Tasting at WeeHeavySD’s place. Thanks a ton for sharing this! I never thought I would see one of these bottles! Pours a still hazy gold color with no signs of carbonation. Aroma is a mix of white grape, orange citrus, and a touch of bubblegum. Lightly oxidized but pleasantly sweet flavor with orange peel. Seems like it held up after all this time. Thanks again Tim, this was a real treat to try!

200th rating for me. Thought this was appropriate, but also thought of 202. Who cares about the number, this is about the beer. My buddy Mark totally stoked me with this beer, and I owe him big time. I was worried to open this with the group on the 13th, because I was afraid it would be a letdown. Thankfully, this beer was better than I expected. It was hazy amber with no head. Wonderfully alive nose, with vanilla, citrus, wood, wine all wafting out. Taste is creamy, and caramel, pepper bitterness jumps out from hiding. Super complex as it moves around the mouth. YAY!!!!

22oz bottle from LagunitasFan tasted at J&J’s Friday the 13th tasting. Enormous huge thanks to Tim for bringing this rarity! It was delicious. Seriously, I was expecting this to be some oxidized, slightly sour, cardboard crap, especially hearing that it was stored in a closet, not in a fridge. This is after hearing being bashed on many threads. On the contrary it was quite good. Cloudy yellow. The spices are still clear and present: orange peel, citrusy lemon peel. Light malty sweetness. Very good.

70th Rating of this brew, shared by LagunitasFan(Tim) at our J&J tasting, I was so damn supremely stoked to try this, I couldn’t care if it was maybe past its prime, I just couldn’t wait. Tim you are super awesome!!! Pours orange with no head. Nose was sweet and subtle with some faded hops and a touch of wit characteristics. Taste is sweet and citrus and overall very nice, not past its prime in my opinion but then again I’ve never had it before and doubt I’ll ever have it again.

February 2, 2002 was my 30th birthday and I got to try this beer thanks to Lagunitasfan (Tim). After hearing all the discussions that this was way past it’s prime I was surprised it was quite tasty. Pours a cloudy yellow/orange with little carbonation. Aroma was slightly sweet with some faded hops. Flavor was slightly oxidized with yeast, fruit, and somebitterness. Over quite a treat. Thanks again Tim.

Hazy orange colour with a white head. Fruity and alcohol sweet aroma with hoppy floral and yeasty notes. Hoppy, light dry and fruity flavor with an yeasty acidic note. Thanx to sk8viking for sharing this special one.
