Commercial Description:
A new Vertical Epic will be released every year, with the goal being to collect them all and have a Vertical Epic tasting once the final Epic is released on 12/12/12. Each new Stone Vertical Epic Ale will be release one YEAR, one MONTH and one DAY apart. With Vertical Epic 03/03/03, we used some pretty interesting ingredients...coriander (a "Belgian-style" beer favorite!), alligator pepper (wow, bite into these little gems and you get a bigtime spicy rush of flavor), and a bit of both unmalted wheat and dark roasted wheat. And a blend of Belgian yeast and American ale yeast. And a nice selection of high alpha hops (a decidedly non-Belgian style twist). All told it makes for a dubble-ish taken-to-San-Diego-pushed-to-the-edge-and-slapped-around-a-bit beer. So, treat it gently. It's been abused enough already. Store it upright, cool and in the dark. It would enjoy a nice long rest. It will have plenty of patience. Now let's see about you . . . . In addition, we are pleased to provide the homebrewing recipe: http://stonebrew.com/timeline/030303

Murky dark copper body topped by a foamy quickly diminishing light tan head. The aroma is light sun tan lotion (coconut?!?) sweet malt, and light spiciness. The flavor is roasted nutty malts, lightly sweet cookie, light spiciness, the suntan lotion is not in the flavor but it is still in the aroma. Medium dry body, watery palate, very spritzy on the palate, light acidity even. Interesting but not nearly as good as some ot their other offerings.

Large foamy off white head in the tulip at the first pour. Goes to a thin head later. Leaves a lot of lacing on the glass. Very dark amber approaching brown color. Aroma of brown sugar, maple and some caramel. Hints of citrus are hiding in there. The taste is bready and nutty with a salty finish. Notes of black pepper and coriander. A spicy and warmed orange is the main character. Hints of grapefruit and toasted toffee. A very malty beer. The aging would benefit the spice and the in your face malts. As it warms, the dry finish becomes more pleasurable.

Muddy brown color with a very thin head. Strong aroma of berries, spices, malt and marzipan. Flavor of marzipan, malt, spices, alcohol and something sweet. Light to medium body, liquorous texture, soft carbonation. Great beer.

Nutty marzipan sweetness with plenty of berry-like fruit esters and a light background peppery spiciness. Opaque orange-tan with off-white/tan head that recedes to cover with some lacing. Marzipan continues in the flavour with a tangerine-like fruitiness. Pleasant balancing bitterness before sweetness retakes the palate and leaves a lingering spice wash. Medium body and gentle carbonation. Bottle enjoyed with beerbuzzmontreal, lubiere, MartinT and Rastacouere.

Clear garnet reflected medium brown. Head is thin and not lasting. Strong aroma, nostrils burning strawberries soaked in cinzano. Generous maltiness didn’t miss the flight in the chocolate and marzipan kingdom. Peppery and nutty with a fitting dryness. Remarkable well controlled basic flavors (bitterness, sweetness and acidity) by Stone’s standards. Medium bodied with moderately high carbonation. Very good take on the style if not for the remaining heat after almost 2 years and perhaps lacking in appearance and palate.

Large frothy off-white head that fades, clear dark mahoganey body. Light and sweet banage, cherry aroma, with even lighter chocolate caramel. Good body, but a bit fizzy at times. Wtf, I didn’t write down any flavor descriptors. I did enjoy it, but it didn’t seem like anything big and bad. Belgiany malt sweetness... a bit of fruit and a bit of caramel.

Pours red/brown, and a little cloudy. There’s a tan/white head as well. Aroma is sweet malt, brown sugar, spice, and fruit. Taste is not as sweet as the aroma. Flavors include fruit, spice, yeast, and brown sugar. Medium body is just right. Thanks to Sick_boy282 from trading me this one.

Dark red color, cloudy body. Subdued sweetness - has a lime/mineral quality, aged plum and pepper. Light sweetness and that liminess in the aroma.
