Commercial Description:
A new Vertical Epic will be released every year, with the goal being to collect them all and have a Vertical Epic tasting once the final Epic is released on 12/12/12. Each new Stone Vertical Epic Ale will be release one YEAR, one MONTH and one DAY apart. With Vertical Epic 03/03/03, we used some pretty interesting ingredients...coriander (a "Belgian-style" beer favorite!), alligator pepper (wow, bite into these little gems and you get a bigtime spicy rush of flavor), and a bit of both unmalted wheat and dark roasted wheat. And a blend of Belgian yeast and American ale yeast. And a nice selection of high alpha hops (a decidedly non-Belgian style twist). All told it makes for a dubble-ish taken-to-San-Diego-pushed-to-the-edge-and-slapped-around-a-bit beer. So, treat it gently. It's been abused enough already. Store it upright, cool and in the dark. It would enjoy a nice long rest. It will have plenty of patience. Now let's see about you . . . . In addition, we are pleased to provide the homebrewing recipe: http://stonebrew.com/timeline/030303

Thanks to EyeDrinkAle for sending me this bomber several months ago!!

Strange beer.. Not what I was expecting at all!
Pours a mysterious tawny cherry wood body, edges of gold… with a solid tan head. What a crazy-ass beer! All kinds of citric notes where the hops show through, grapefruit and tangerine zests. Then I hit upon these notes of chipolata and black pepper. Again, this is another beer with a tart “buttermilk” presence, reminded me of the Fish Tail beers that are aged in the old oak wine casks. Some raisins and figs, crazy beer…. and there’s NO WAY it could last another, even 3 years, before showing stress signs! Nice biscuity flavor in the finish, buttery palate… good beer but NOT the norm!

Pours hazy dark copper color with a creamy off-white head that lasts well and diminishes to a film of bubbles on top, leaving some lacing. Aroma is sweet, candy and aromatic belgian yeast with a little spice (coriander and can smell the pepper too) and alcohol evident as well. Flavor is sweet and fruity, with generous spicy notes, noticible hoppiness and and lingering sweet and tart finish with a pepper and alcohol kick. Medium body, creamy carbonation and round feel. I’ve got one bottle left - but I don’t think I can wait until 12/12/12 to drink it!

Pours a copper clear color with a tannish head. Carmel/figgy aroma. Full bodied fruity crmel-figgy flavor. Pretty decent, but kinda reminds me of a bigger version of a Flying Fish dubble....

22 oz bottle: much much darker than the 04.04.04 i drank last night. and smells much less intense. still, slight bannanas in the smell. very fruity. also alcohol. cloudy deep amber, with a moderate peach head. tastes smooth and delicate, with a peppery berryness to it. interesting.

#559 on my beerwall. Great light orange color with a small white head that didn’t stay long. Great spice flavor, great belgian style. Finish was dry and crisp. I can’t wait to try my other bottle in 2012 or when i get thirsty next.

Bottle. Color is a nice amber. Aroma is excellent with fig, raison, spice, and malt. The taste reminds me of a dark belgian double. Nice dry malt with spice and pepper. The pepper really comes on strong at the finish. Good stuff.

Nice dark carmel color. Aroma is big and malty with fig tones, similar to Aventitus with moderate hints of spice, especialy coriander. Taste is malty, very very dry, rather spicy corriander and some noticeable pepper that seems to realy hit you at times. Lightly yeasty and bitter. A bit unusual but very nice.
