Fabulously fresh aromatics that I can imagine as orange peels, coriander, outrageously spicy pepper, hop flowers, dark cane sugar, and lemon zest drizzled with honey and smashed with a pestle and mortar. The dark orange brown colour isn’t what I was expecting – almost clayish. Starts with some dark, wheaty grain and dough following through to moist anise and some Belgian yeast and malt. Loads of bitter orange flesh throughout. A lightly spicy finish that could be lightly peppered pears. Overall the flavours weren’t my favourite in a beer, just a bit too strange, but the aroma was top-notch and the palate was smooth and creamy. We shall see how this one holds up/develops. All in all, an enjoyable beer. More or less a Dubble, with more hops and American style hops at that. I'm going to try and secure another bottle to see if it gets more complex with age, but I doubt it would improve that much after a year or two in the bottle. But I'm not one to shy away from a beer that's trying to be unusual or experimental, so I'm glad to have tried it. Syd (901), Waconia, Minnesota, USA
| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Apr 11, 2004 Bottle pours a crystal clear cherry red with a nice head and no lace. The aroma is yeast, wheat, spice, and sweetness. The flavor is yeasty, malty, spice, pepper, hops, and just overall a bit unusual and very unbalanced. The palate is fine, not too carbonated and fairly rich. Overall, this one is not for me, but I supect that some of the characteristics that were originally part of this beer have been lost to aging and perhaps some less than optimal storage. jeffin7 (610), Silver Spring, Maryland, USA
| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 18/20 | Apr 10, 2004 Sharp citrusy and piney hop aroma. Flavor was of hard caramel, citrus, many other fruits and some spice hops. A very nice beer. Very up front and in your face, you don't need to go searching for the aspects of the flavor. xsketchyx (184), Oregon, USA

Aroma is fruity sweet with a bitterness that evens it out. Flavors swirl around your mouth, Maltiness, fruit earth tones and hop finish blended wonderfully. A great beer and one that I'm gonna have to get more of. Brodie (540), Blowing Rock, North Carolina, USA
| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Mar 6, 2004 In the aroma I get intense ripe fruits - banana, plum, apple - followed by mild phenolics - clove and band-aids. There is also some malt and yeast earthiness and spiciness. Clear ruby-amber in color, beige head is milkshake-like and leaves good lacing. Flavor is malty and spicy, with some peppery alcohol and moderate hop bitterness coming through in the finish. Medium-bodied with moderate carbonation, hides the alcohol well. I had this beer last year, just after it came out, and didn't like it. I thought it had way too much hop flavor for a Belgian-style ale. Well the hop flavor has dropped out, leaving a superbly balanced Belgian. It has all the spiciness and fruitiness that a Belgian should, but with an even balance from the Stone-quantity of hops added. Amazing what a year will do for a beer.
