Commercial Description:
A new Vertical Epic will be released every year, with the goal being to collect them all and have a Vertical Epic tasting once the final Epic is released on 12/12/12. Each new Stone Vertical Epic Ale will be release one YEAR, one MONTH and one DAY apart. With Vertical Epic 03/03/03, we used some pretty interesting ingredients...coriander (a "Belgian-style" beer favorite!), alligator pepper (wow, bite into these little gems and you get a bigtime spicy rush of flavor), and a bit of both unmalted wheat and dark roasted wheat. And a blend of Belgian yeast and American ale yeast. And a nice selection of high alpha hops (a decidedly non-Belgian style twist). All told it makes for a dubble-ish taken-to-San-Diego-pushed-to-the-edge-and-slapped-around-a-bit beer. So, treat it gently. It's been abused enough already. Store it upright, cool and in the dark. It would enjoy a nice long rest. It will have plenty of patience. Now let's see about you . . . . In addition, we are pleased to provide the homebrewing recipe: http://stonebrew.com/timeline/030303

This is a sipping beer due to the high ABV, and what a way to start off the weekend!!This beer had a medium sized tan head that consisted of medium sized bubbles that fully diminished. The body was cloudy and carbonated with a brown hue.The nose consisted of malts, hops and alcohol. It had an alcohol flavor and was a bit acidic as well. The mouthfeel was tingly, bubbly, smooth, light bodied with a watery texture to it.It had a fair amount of lacing to it.An enjoyable drink for sure.

This brew poured a medium sized head of fine to large sized light brown mostly diminishing bubbles that left behind a fair lacing and a transparent slightly dark brown colored uncarbonated body. It has a very nice roasted caramel nose with a vinuous slightly bubbly mouthfeel that finishes with a mild lingering hop bite. The flavor is that of alcohol and caramel malts with mild spices.

Aroma is full of buiscuts, yeast, dark fruit, corriander and spice. Alcohol is detectable in the flavor as well as some ripe fruit. This one develops in complexities immensly as it approaches room temperature. I need to get another one for 2012!

Head is initially average sized, frothy, off-white, mostly diminishing. Body is hazy medium amber, dense tiny/small particles, bottle conditioned. Aroma is lightly malty (cookie), lightly yeasty (cobwebs), with notes of coriander, clove, and banana. Flavor is moderately sweet, moderately acidic, lightly bitter. Finish is lightly sweet, moderately acidic, moderately bitter. Medium body, watery texture, lively carbonation, lightly alcoholic. Doesn't hold a candle to the 02.02.02, unfortunately.

Pours a dark copper mahogany brown with a thick frothy white head. Lots of sticky lace left by the head as it subsides. Faint bready Belgian yeast aroma with some caramel malt and oak. Body starts sweet and chewy with some chocolate, toffee, and floral hop aspects. Toward the finish I pick up a strange chemical, perhaps acetone, which could just be a result of the high alpha acid content and the Belgian style, something I'm not used to. Hopefully this will mellow as it ages. Still an interesting style and a decent beer.

DDDDaaaaaawGONE This is Good Beer. Next to Dreadnaught this has to be the best go slap your mother-in-law beer. I can't imagine how good this stuff will be when it's fully aged in 12/12/12. Poured dark brown with frothy head that lasted throughout. Nice lacing and good carbonation. Malty nose but not overpowering. Good balance of Malt with just enough hops to make it near perfect. I absolutely will drink this again. If you can get some do it now. If you wait to long for this limited gem, you may pay it's weight in gold to get any, especially if there's any left by 12/12/12. Thanks To Slikwily for This my 100th Rated beer. It was well worth the wait and worthy of this landmark occasion.

(1.6 pint bottle) Pours a thin, quick dissipating almond head and a reddish-brown body. Light carbonated activity. Aroma of malt, banana and bubble gum. Sweet raisins, cotton candy and mellow malt. Thin finish but nice balance throughout. Good. Thanks Argo for the opportunity to try this...

Fruity, tangy aroma. Complex fruity, hoppy, malty flavor combo. I'm starting to notice that a lot of beers I've had lately are like this, and I think they're all strong ales, or belgian strong ales. I can't say I really enjoyed this one, though it didn't turn me off either. Maybe I should wait and try it again in 2012.
