Commercial Description:
A new Vertical Epic will be released every year, with the goal being to collect them all and have a Vertical Epic tasting once the final Epic is released on 12/12/12. Each new Stone Vertical Epic Ale will be release one YEAR, one MONTH and one DAY apart. This time around we used some unmalted wheat, just the right touch of Kaffir Lime Leaf, and a really cool Belgian yeast. The result is a bit like a strong Biere de Garde / Saison-esque influenced beer coupled with some aromatic Bavarian Hefeweizen style phenolic banana esters, and a backnote hint of lime from the lime leaf.

From a 22oz Bottle. Cloudy, pale orange pour with a quickly receding white head. Sweet, sugary orange aroma with a bit of banana and some herbal notes. Medium bodied with a smooth, creamy texture. Plenty of light fruit flavors conjure up images of peaches and pears with a touch of the lime coming through on the backend of the palate. Herbal finish with a touch of yeasty spice.

I did not care very much for this beer. Reminded me mostly of bananas and leaves, which is not surprising as the commercial description says that it should taste that way, but it simply doesn’t work as an overall product for me.

Spicy aroma with notes of clove and floral hops. Flavor is malty with heavy spice and a somewhat off putting astringency. Slight earthy hops round out the finish Alcohol is noticeable.

Bottle from moejuck. Pours copper with champaigne-like bubbles, a tall frothy off-white head that becomes rocky and has good retention, lined lacing. Aroma is malt (meal, cardboard, biscuit), yeast (grass), fruit (banana, apple, pear, peach) and perfumey flowers. Moderately bitter and heavy acidity, earthy and dirty malt and yeast, flowers and alcohol with a floral hop finish. Medium bodied, dry and fizzy-spicy palate.

Bottle. Pours golden coloured with a medium sizeed and fast disappearing head. Slightly perfumed aroma. Yeasty and sweet like a belgo triple. A bit sharp and too high carbonation level. Hints of alcohol, fruits and honey. Slightly dry finish.

Poured a golden color, somewhat of a thin head that didn’t last long. Aroma of grapes, apples, coriander, yeaste, and some alcohol, considering this thing was two years old. The flavor followed the aroma mostly. Mellow malts, balanced with a light yeasty bitterness, an underlying light sweetness, bready flavors, and alcohol that was noticeable but not "new" sharp. The mouthfeel was moderate with a leathery type feel.

22 0z. Apparently from the description I wasn’t supposed to drink this beer until 12 / 12 / 12. But I didn’t read that unitl I had opened it and was half way into drinking it. Beautiful color - dull orange / copper - no head though, I even tried to produce a head and not much came around. Sweet malty flavor, I picked up on apricot, perhaps I am sensitve to that aroma because it seems like I pick it out fairly often. A hint of wood, a bit spicey maybe smokey. Delicious beer with a kind of slick, almost oily, medium body. I would give it my recommendation but I’m not sure its even available any longer. A solid Belgian.
