Commercial Description:
A new Vertical Epic will be released every year, with the goal being to collect them all and have a Vertical Epic tasting once the final Epic is released on 12/12/12. Each new Stone Vertical Epic Ale will be release one YEAR, one MONTH and one DAY apart. This time around we used some unmalted wheat, just the right touch of Kaffir Lime Leaf, and a really cool Belgian yeast. The result is a bit like a strong Biere de Garde / Saison-esque influenced beer coupled with some aromatic Bavarian Hefeweizen style phenolic banana esters, and a backnote hint of lime from the lime leaf.

Lightly hazy golden ale with a no head. Tangerine spicey malt with honey notes in aroma. Very restrained in mouth, but classy, with notes of ginger, coriander, and honey. Upon reading the bottle, I note the limeleaves in mouth. Nice lingering sustained hops. Very good. (Spring 2005)

This beer pours a golden color with a light yellow hue in the light with noticeably visible yeast chunks and a very thin soapy white head with little lacing. The aroma is very sweet with super doses of spices and a hint of brown sugar. Citrus, ginger and cinnamon tend to dominate with other dry spices and twigs thrown in there. The flavor is dry and full-bodied with a slightly noticeably alcohol hint, probably due to over a year of aging. Mild carbonation up front tapering into a very flat finish. Spicey and dry with a tart citrusy finish and a hint of hay and pine. Yeasty and smooth due to a slight alcoholic burn on the back of the throat. Some hints of malt, but rather tame and almost cottonmouth malty appeal. Grainy....thats the best way to describe it. OK, time to finish sucking down my remaining floaties...

Short lived head atop a tan, golden body. Aroma is dry, spiced, almost lager-ish. Taste is big and spicy, candy, cinnamon, with a fruity finish. Balanced hops, but could use maybe a touch more. Nice texture, long spicy/earthy finish, some bananna citrus flavors as well.

Margaret. Anoher missed rating, slipped through the cracks. This was very nice, sampled fresh, though I do still have a bottle waiting (thanks Doug). Even my oldest seemed to appreciate this as I shared a glass with her. Only get some of the basics of the saison, but did catch a bit of the phenols mentioned on the bottle. I might be given to impression, but even my ex who slipped into the room before departure tried some and said "hmm, nice - like a good hefe" so there you have it.

Bottled. RBESG -05. Charneol colour. Belgo Style malt profile - tidbits, little lmond and candy-ish. Soft aroma all in all. Pretty smooth body with only little Co2(me like). Lots of tidbits - reminiscent of Unibroue f.i. Long flavour.
