Commercial Description:
A new Vertical Epic will be released every year, with the goal being to collect them all and have a Vertical Epic tasting once the final Epic is released on 12/12/12. Each new Stone Vertical Epic Ale will be release one YEAR, one MONTH and one DAY apart. This time around we used some unmalted wheat, just the right touch of Kaffir Lime Leaf, and a really cool Belgian yeast. The result is a bit like a strong Biere de Garde / Saison-esque influenced beer coupled with some aromatic Bavarian Hefeweizen style phenolic banana esters, and a backnote hint of lime from the lime leaf.

This seemed to be a pretty good example of a belgian strong. Reminded me of duvel in apperance - honey coloured with a fairly small head the dissapeared into a small ring of lace. Apricot, banana, and some apple in the aroma. Malty taste with some more apricots and other dired fruits. The further I got into this, it left me with a short alcohol finish. This wasn’t awesome, but I enjoyed it. I still have another bottle I’m keeping for 2012...

Thanks to Saarlander for sending this gem my way in a trade several months ago. pour was a golden yellow with a frothy white head that faded to nice lace all the way to the end. aromas and flavors of apple, apricot, banana and an occasional hint of lime. this was a fine Belgian Strong Ale! well-balanced, malty, full-bodied and smooth. Highly recommended, thanks again Aaron.

Amber in color with a small ring of head. Looks a lot like apple cider. Strong smell of apricot. Taste seemed somewhat sweet for me. A little bit of hop taste but overwhelmend by the apricot. Had a short finish. Although I sound negative on this review I did somewhat enjoy sippin on it.

22 oz bottle Amber in color. Quickly dissipating head, foam sticking around the edge of the glass. This really smells yeasty and a little bit like apples. I’m liking the malt and I’m liking the hops. Just bitter enough and just sweet enough. I guess I should make another trip to grab another bottle while I can, and save that one for some time, see how it ages. One year seems to have been good to this ale

Bottle. Golden yellow, slight orange haze. Cloudy. Thick offwhite head. Citrusy smell with lots of yeast. Predominant lime scent with honey. Slightly dry finish, though not nearly as bitter as most other STone brews. Nice blend of hops and malts - slightly bitter with a full nutty flavor. Smooth in the mouth with lots of very fine carbonation.

Appearance: A touch past golden. White head, moderate lacing. Aroma: Big banana/yeasty/lime leaf aroma, its taste is more subtle. Flavor profile: Creamy malts, smooth almost undetectable hops, a nice kick of beligan yeast, and a banana/lime leaf undertones that come out in the aftertaste. Light and crisp overall, definately worth of the word epic. Palate: Light and crisp as aforementioned, very refresing, heavier than most beers but relatively light for Stone. This beer was nigh perfection. I will miss it greatly.

I guess I should get another bottle of this and age it accordingly. Anyway, now that I have tasted it the appearance has a cloudy yellowish color with a thich white head, Lime is the dominant factor in the aroma along with citrus, banana, strawberry and a lot of hops. Taste has a peppery taste similar to Tripel Karmeliet. This was not really my kind of taste. However it was a Stone brew so I will respect it.

Cloudy, honey colored, with a small white head. Fiarly sweet, malty nose with banana hints, meusli, nougat. Notable lime touches in the flavor, over a nice cereal/nutty taste; relatively sweet. The lime’s an excellent choice, makes for a unique, nicely balanced flavor, and a dryness that leaves the palate wanting more. Big thanks to TannerTavernboys!
