Commercial Description:
A new Vertical Epic will be released every year, with the goal being to collect them all and have a Vertical Epic tasting once the final Epic is released on 12/12/12. Each new Stone Vertical Epic Ale will be release one YEAR, one MONTH and one DAY apart. This time around we used some unmalted wheat, just the right touch of Kaffir Lime Leaf, and a really cool Belgian yeast. The result is a bit like a strong Biere de Garde / Saison-esque influenced beer coupled with some aromatic Bavarian Hefeweizen style phenolic banana esters, and a backnote hint of lime from the lime leaf.

Pours medium golden with a big frothy head that almost completely dissipates. Aroma is, to me, bank on for the style. Estery, lightly fruity, and yeasty. Flavor is fairly light and is indeed somewhat hefe like, except that this is obviously higher gravity that a hefe. Up front flavor of banana and spices. Finish is lightly hoppy and alcoholic. Tasty.

Not entirely sure what Stone was aiming for, but my glass turned out to be an absolutely top notch hefeweizen. Medium gold with big rocky head, nice lacing. Nice layer of yeast on the bottom too, don’t know how anyone could miss it. ;) Aroma is that of a hefe, spice, clove, pepper, touch of banana. Really quite a bit like Weihenstephaner (sp?). Nice full mouthfeel, a bit of wheat character, and then an explosion of clove, banana, spice, hint of lime, and a truly beautiful depth that pays homage to the Belgian character that lurks far in the background. I waited two months before opening this hoping things would come together based off initial reviews, and I think this baby has peaked right here right now.

Best of the Verticals so far! Nice forthy head. Pale blonde color. Poured half glash, swirled the bottle and repoured on advice of the brewer. Brought out wonderful banana/yeasty flavor, nice compliment to citrus notes from lime leaves. Wonderful take on a Saison!

Aroma is of yeast, cloves, and maybe some bubblegum in there as well. A blonde honey color that is pretty trasnparent--slight haze. Nice fluffy white head. Start has hints of yeasts and bananas. Sweet honey flavors in the middle, hints of gumball in the finish. This must be those lime leaves. Small hop kick to finish. This is a very sweet belgian style beer. Not so sure how much I like it. The alcohol isn’t detectable, but it could certainly use some haze in the body.

Bottle: Good nose. clove, lemon-lime. Orange gold color. small to no head, though I poured slow. Sweet and spicy, Clove, coriander, little honey, lime, plasticy, almond. Creamy, syrupy with a fruity finish, its where I found banana. Very tasty, though I’m not a usually a Belgian fan. I kinda get what they say on the label.

Deep gold, off white head.Yeasty clove nose.Flavor of yeast, coriander and cloves with medium strong alcohol heat in finish. To be fair, this is an interesting beer, but I don’t like this style, or this beer.

OK, it’s way to early to sample this, but what the hell: Perfumy nose (not quite enjoyable, but I imagine this would improve greatly with age), shimmering gold color and a tall fluffy head. Fruity start: orange maltiness that turns to a more grapefruit-like taste once the hops kick in. Medicinal ending and a odd bitterness - like an orange peel. Alcohol not really present. This should turn out to be an amazing beer in 8 year.s
