doubleo (749), San Diego, California, USA Dec 30, 2007 Let me just say that the taste of this beer has definitely changed but not in a bad way, just different. I drank a ton of this back in 04. Pours an almost crystal clear orangish yellow. Moderate head that dissipates rather quickly and leaves no lace. Not too much of a nose. Smells of sweet alcohol. I don’t really know how to describe the taste other than, it’s different. Sweet, the lime leaf is definitely there but more mature/mellow. Definitely get the Belgian grain/malt flavors. Beautifu on the palate, the flavors absolutely roll around the tongue. Nice carbonation. Not too thin, not too thick. This was the beer that introduced me to Stone. Many headaches, many memories. I thought about saving alot of it way back then but alas, I drank all that I could get my hands on. It’s that good.
Glouglouburp (1935), Montreal, Quebec, Canada May 29, 2008 In short: A past due-date blonde Belgian Ale
How: Sample from a bottle at Dark-Lord-Day 2008. Unknown generous soul.
The look: Cloudy yellow body with a medium white head
In long: Aroma of an old banana cake. Body falling apart, super soft carbonation. Tired yeasty fruity esters. Some orange and bananas in honey. No oxidation or bad aging problems other than everything felt old and tired. I could feel that this was once a good beer but it is now more tired than a Wal-Mart greeter at the end of a 50% off everything day. sunevdj (1368), Copenhagen, Denmark Apr 28, 2008 DLD. Pours a hazy golden. Very sweet with aromas of lots of bread and also some caramel. Medium bodied. Dry finish with hints of perfume. This bottle was way pasy it’s prime. IMHO. ratman197 (2260), Arvada, Colorado, USA Apr 7, 2008 Bomber poured a clear amber with a small lingering off white head. Aromas of lime, wheat, yeast, spice and a hint of vanilla. Palate was medium bodied and smooth with a sharp finish. Flavors of light oxidation, lime, light carmel and light spice with a smooth lingering citric finish. TimE (1019), Tokyo, Japan Mar 24, 2008 Stone Half Vertical tasting. No head, which was a surprise compared to the previous years. Deep golden color. Caramel, bready with a touch of lime exuding from the nose. Malty sweetness is also a bit more present than I expected. Lime hits up front, caramel, smooth wheaty body that boders on cloying and then pulls back. Lingering sharp finish that came across has a fruity, oaky chardonney with a squirt of lime. Very interesting and my favorite of the Verticals. Changus (13), Portland, Oregon, USA Mar 4, 2008 One of the first brews I ever tried when I turned 21. Nice golden color flavorful orange nice bitter sweet flavor. Aroma is super sweet and pulls you in. Bold mouth feeling.
