Mangino (1027), Mississippi, USA Aug 2, 2005 Thanks Santa! Pours a dark amber, small off-white head. Aroma of metal, spices, cinnamon, taragon?, nutmeg. Flavor is more spices, with a nice balance between spice/malt/hops. Alcohol is very subtle. Lumpy (1802), Carrollton, Texas, USA Aug 1, 2005 Bottle. Dark brown with a thick foamy head that fades into a bubble film. Notes of cedar, molasses, fig, sawdust. Sweet. 1FastSTi (2551), Glendale, Wisconsin, USA Jul 31, 2005 Sampled from a bomber per Matt. Pours to a thin beige head that disapates within 20 seconds to a thin, non-existent like head. The body is a dark mahogany. The aroma has a gingerbread quality to it. It also has a ton of spice in it. Cinnamon, mace, apples, nutmeg. The flavor is quite spicy. Dark fruits. Lots of cinnamon and nutmeg. DavidP (1743), Milwaukee, Wisconsin, USA Jul 31, 2005 Bottle shared by Facto. Clear brown body with a thin tan ring of bubbles. Alcoholic bubblegum and windmill cookie aroma. Nicely spiced flavor - chocolate, nutmeg, custard finishing wiht bitter chocolate. The beer’s flavor isn’t really "big" but the components blend together very well. scraff (1921), Baltimore, Maryland, USA Jul 29, 2005 Rock on Stone! Burnt orangey crimson, thin tan fizzy head. The nose was rich and complex with notes of plum, cloves, cocoa, dark sweet bread, and rum raisin, with lighter tones of citrus. Extremely well balanced flavors throughout with spiced dark fruit, rich caramel malt, and light notes of mochachino. In the end, you finally get some of the typical Stone hoppiness, yet it only plays a supporting role this time around. Medium bodied, prickly carbonation, dry, bittersweet finish. Kick ass man! Again I beg of you (Chris, Greg, whomever) to get Stone in Maryland ASAP...
fly (1331), austin, Tejas, USA Jul 26, 2005 Couldn’t find the phenols nor esthers for anything, but it was set right by an excellent body and superior malt bill and complimentary hops. Was graced by another bottle which I will save for further examination at a later date. mj (4973), Colorado, USA Jul 22, 2005 Updated: Oct 17, 2007Big frothy head that smells of bourbon, chocolate and wood... a really excellent smell and not one I can find any faults with. Flavor is similar: some chewy chocolate and some maple, woody malt character, reminds me almost of Midnight Sun M with the yeast flavor. One of my favorites from Stone. uvajed (112), Ravenna, Ohio, USA Jul 22, 2005 Good for the style, and definitely tasty, but rather ordinary for a one-time seasonal release; this is the definition of a good ale but does not push the envelope in any way. Almost too much going on but not enough of any single not to rave about. Drinking this, I could taste nearly everything I thought of, though the chocolate and caramel tones were most obvious. A must try, and I’m saving one to go with the other ’verts, but not what I’d hoped.
