Commercial Description:
A new Vertical Epic will be released every year, with the goal being to collect them all and have a Vertical Epic tasting once the final Epic is released on 12/12/12. Each new Stone Vertical Epic Ale will be release one YEAR, one MONTH and one DAY apart. This time around, we used no spices in the brewing of this beer. If you've tasted the beer before reading this, that may surprise you. The special Belgian yeast we used adds a distinctively spicy aroma and flavor. Roastiness, clove, hops, fruitiness, and those other great and funky phenols abound in the nose. What's in the flavor? You certainly get some dark roasted malts and alcohol overtones. What else? Hints of earthiness, chocolate/cocoa, hop spiciness, maybe even anise, and ... the incredible variety of complexities from the classic brewing ingredients of barley malt, hops, yeast and water, when applied with an artistic brewer's talent never ceases to amaze.

rating #50. Poured a deep brown with zero head. Wish it actually had some. Full, mouth-coating palate with a luscious, malty, fruity, perfectly balanced flavor. Alcohol was perfectly hidden: I was more than happy to quaff the bomber.

On the other hand, not really sure why this is marked as a Belgian Strong. Tastes loads more like an American Strong to me. In fact, I noticed almost no Belgian flavors whatsoever. Oh well.

Had in a vertical with the 030303 and 040404. Coffee was apparent to me in both the aroma and flavor. Light head. Alcohol was apparent but not overwhelming. Ruby hue. Made me think of a dubbel.

Dark color. Almost cola looking. Yeast, bread, muffin nose. Plum flavors. Raisins. Much of dark fruits mixed together in a palate raising concoction of flavors. Mostly sweet: needed some more rounding out flavors. Medium body. Very good.

Bottle shared with egajdzis (thanks for bringing this over!). Poured a dark reddish/brown color with an averaged sized off white head. Aromas of light chocolates, dark fruits and somewhat earthy. Tastes of light chocolate, dark fruits and spices. Lively body. Drank side by side with the 04 and I liked this one better.

Pours dark brown with a reddish tint and a huge tan head that fades very slowly. Aroma is dark fruits (mostly cherry and raisins), dark chocolate, slight hay. Flavor is of cherries, raisins, chocolate, earthy, mild roast, slight hay with a late bitterness that keeps the flavor moving. Long aftertaste of musty chocolate and dark fruits. Very nice. Medium to full bodied.

Pours a dark mahogany with a thick, but short-lived and lightly-lacing tan head. Aroma has a nice heavy maltiness and bready Belgian yeasty character with some hints of dark fruits. Body starts with a pleasant sticky sweetness turning more dry and lightly peppery-spiced toward the bready, yeasty finish. Some mild warming notes are present, but overall it hides the alcohol fairly well. Has nice complexity, but the body and flavor seem to thin a bit toward the finish. Otherwise, one of the better Vertical Epics I’ve tried.

Pours a deep brown hue with a tan head. Aromas of roasted nuts, slight yeastiness, a light mocha flavors, a little sweet and a little spiced. ...dates and prunes.... mouthfeel is medium bodied with nice carbonation. Flavors of roasted malts, a light banana, cinnamon, spice with a pleasant lingering finish.

Pours a clear deep crimson with a creamy head and weepy lacing. Alcohol and fruit in the nose. Caramel, fruit and spicy notes in flavor. Nice robust flavors that will hold up for a while. Must try one with some age on it.
