Commercial Description:
A new Vertical Epic will be released every year, with the goal being to collect them all and have a Vertical Epic tasting once the final Epic is released on 12/12/12. Each new Stone Vertical Epic Ale will be release one YEAR, one MONTH and one DAY apart. This time around, we used no spices in the brewing of this beer. If you've tasted the beer before reading this, that may surprise you. The special Belgian yeast we used adds a distinctively spicy aroma and flavor. Roastiness, clove, hops, fruitiness, and those other great and funky phenols abound in the nose. What's in the flavor? You certainly get some dark roasted malts and alcohol overtones. What else? Hints of earthiness, chocolate/cocoa, hop spiciness, maybe even anise, and ... the incredible variety of complexities from the classic brewing ingredients of barley malt, hops, yeast and water, when applied with an artistic brewer's talent never ceases to amaze.

September 2006- wonderful dark brown color with a little head on top. Dark plums, chocoalte and malt in the taste and nose- very intense. Alcoholic finish- but pleasant. Wonderful

Bottle. Pours a dark brown with thin off white head. This one has changed quite a bit since fresh, I’m down to 1 bottle now. Aroma is sweet and malty with chocolate and brown sugar. Flavor seems more mellow and full of dark fruits with cocoa and alcohol. Finish is warm and has a little black licorice taste that kind of sucks. Now to decide when to have this last bottle.......

Pours a deep brownish color with a red tint to it. Very thin off-white, brownish head. Not much of a nose to it. A little bit of malt. Tastes sweet. This brew has mellowed substantially. When it first came it out it was too dark of a Belgian for me. Now, its still dark but the sweetness takes over. Its got some toastiness to it. A little fruit as well, bananas maybe? Marshmallows too. Thinnish palate. Still crisp though. Good carbonation. Very drinkable. Tasty to say the least. Watch out for the abv though.

Bottle at O’Briens. Couldn’t resist the chance to buy one of these; split with golubj. Poured a dark reddish-brown. Aroma was very malty; raisins, smoke, dark fruit, brown sugar, and chocolate. Flavor was a malt extravaganza; really good tasting. I’m not sure how much time that it has left, but right now it was really tasty.

Bottle at O’Brien’s. Brown-reddish pour. Aroma is very malty, raisins, and smoke. Flavor is brown sugar, slightly smoked / burnt malt, chocolate, and some hops in the finish. It might be time to drink this one. Alexanderj thought 4.2ish and that it was "a malt explosion / extravaganza."

22 oz. bottle. Pours dark brown with a small beige head. The aroma was fruity (mainly dark varieties) with chocolate, brown sugar, and some hops. The flavor is very much the same with some alcohol peeking through. Medium full mouthfeel. This one is in pretty good shape right now.

Dak brown with small ring likr laceing. Aroma of raisins, plums, and brown sugar. The taste was the same with light cardboard notes. Nice rich mouthful with dry light chalky finish.
