doubleo (1096), San Diego, California, USA Dec 26, 2007 Pours a deep brownish color with a red tint to it. Very thin off-white, brownish head. Not much of a nose to it. A little bit of malt. Tastes sweet. This brew has mellowed substantially. When it first came it out it was too dark of a Belgian for me. Now, its still dark but the sweetness takes over. Its got some toastiness to it. A little fruit as well, bananas maybe? Marshmallows too.
Thinnish palate. Still crisp though. Good carbonation. Very drinkable. Tasty to say the least. Watch out for the abv though. alexanderj (2212), Chino Hills, California, USA Dec 24, 2007 Bottle at O’Briens. Couldn’t resist the chance to buy one of these; split with golubj. Poured a dark reddish-brown. Aroma was very malty; raisins, smoke, dark fruit, brown sugar, and chocolate. Flavor was a malt extravaganza; really good tasting. I’m not sure how much time that it has left, but right now it was really tasty. golubj (1275), Sunnyvale, California, USA Dec 24, 2007 Bottle at O’Brien’s. Brown-reddish pour. Aroma is very malty, raisins, and smoke. Flavor is brown sugar, slightly smoked / burnt malt, chocolate, and some hops in the finish. It might be time to drink this one. Alexanderj thought 4.2ish and that it was "a malt explosion / extravaganza." alexsdad06 (1056), Ohio, USA Nov 11, 2007 22 oz. bottle. Pours dark brown with a small beige head. Thanks, John!! Pours a murky, dark cherry-cola color; light tan head with great lacing. Dried dark fruits and cola in the aroma; slightly boozy with some brown sugar. Medium-to-full mouthfeel: spritzy carbonation at the front of the tongue, followed by warm cola and brown sugar notes; solid chewy malt presence with minimal oxidation; dried dark fruits (blackberries, currants) appear at mid-palate.
