| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Apr 5, 2008 pours a very darkcaramel brown with reddish brown hues at the edges. a silky creamy thin of off-white head tops it off.... aroma of caramel malt and dark dried fruits.... flavors provide an extension of the aforementioned qualities in the nose. after a few sips, the sweetness became a little cloying almost tasting medicinal. a really nice mouthfeel though with this one. carbonation was on the lighter side so it went down quite smoothly. | 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Mar 24, 2008 Deep mahogany color. Head quickly disappears. Licquorice, milk chocolate, candy sugar in the nose make me think this is very close to a dubble. The mouth carries through on the dubble theme, but I still get some bready character, which I don’t expect in this beer and it doesn’t mesh as well as previous years. Lingering milk chocolate, liquorice, warming finish. jaymobrown (1360), Chicago, Illinois, USA
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Jul 2, 2005 Dark color. Almost cola looking. Yeast, bread, muffin nose. Plum flavors. Raisins. Much of dark fruits mixed together in a palate raising concoction of flavors. Mostly sweet: needed some more rounding out flavors. Medium body. Very good. boto (1345), Granby, Connecticut, USA
| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | May 7, 2006 22oz. bottle: This one pours a dark mahogany with ruby tints to it. There was a fairly strong tan head on mine, that does subside after awhile. The aroma is pretty much that of a standard Belgian Strong Ale. I get caramel, raisins, some spiciness, and some other dark fruits. The body is actually a bit lighter than I expected. Certainly not light at all, but I expect these beers to be more of a "liquid bread". The taste is good, with some roastiness coming out on top of the caramel and fruits that you normally find in this style. Certainly a decent beer, but I’m not sure that it will make it another 7 years. fly (1333), austin, Tejas, USA
| 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 18/20 | Jul 26, 2005 Couldn’t find the phenols nor esthers for anything, but it was set right by an excellent body and superior malt bill and complimentary hops. Was graced by another bottle which I will save for further examination at a later date. biz82 (1328), austin, Texas, USA
| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Jul 7, 2005 Dark fruit aroma with tropical highlights. Passionfruit, starfruit, grapefruit. Clear and dark red with little head. The flavor does not match the aroma. It’s one dimensional, though clean and somewhat interesting. Where’s the flavor? scrizzz (1327), kirkland, Washington, USA
