Pours a deep red that only shows transparency when held to the light. Malty with lots of dark fruit, light raisin, caramel, and some definite smoke. Fruitiness increases in the finish with a little citrus. Very good, but takes a little hit in aroma. 5000 (2600), Hardened Liver, Washington, USA
| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | May 8, 2005 Bottle: Dark ruby, fairly clear, monsterous beige head, foamy, fantastic lacing, lively carbonation. Very bready nose, cloves, subtle pepper. Yeasty, light sweetness, cloves, subtle raisins on the tongue, a bit of anise as well. Seems a quasi Belgian, Tripel/Dubbel combination. Not as sweet or fruity as others in the same style, but certainly tasty. Full to moderate body and mouthfeel. Clean finish, lingering anise, cloves, and bready. Somewhat earthy without being musty. While Belgianesque, the sweetness and mustiness is missing.   Otherwise, tiz fairly good!

| 4.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Jul 31, 2005 Sampled from a bomber per Matt. Pours to a thin beige head that disapates within 20 seconds to a thin, non-existent like head. The body is a dark mahogany. The aroma has a gingerbread quality to it. It also has a ton of spice in it. Cinnamon, mace, apples, nutmeg. The flavor is quite spicy. Dark fruits. Lots of cinnamon and nutmeg. Nate (2558), Indiana, Pennsylvania, USA

Chocolate, candied prune, oak chips, alcohol, and mild Twizzler. Rich and luscious with very little bitterness from a hint of hops. Just incredible. Dark ruby-brown clear with light tan lacing head. Heavy oily body with silky carbonation and mild alcohol warming. Starts rich and just still a bit hot, with Twizzlers, plum and or prune, macerated raisins and brown sugar. Candi sugar and mild molasses. Oaky with just a hint of acidity. Really smooth and delicious. Bockyhorsey (2552), Mesa, Arizona, USA
| 4.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 9/10 | 4/5 | 19/20 | May 7, 2005 Aroma of the malty spice and hints of chocolate. Dark brown body, good off wihte head with lots of lacing. About the head the fisrt beer poured head diminished to a fine layer over beer. Second glass from 22oz bottle the head settled to a small one on top of beer. Flavor was of roasted malts and alcohol to start with. At the finish the spice and rich flavors of candy appeared. Great beer. May have to get another one of these. dwyerpg (2545), Las Vegas, Nevada, USA

Definitely wouldn’t have said that there were no spices in it, since it reminds me of Belgian ales (which usu. have them). Perhaps will be better with age, who can tell. Wish I woulda caught on to this idea three years ago. pivo (2537), Germany

Dark brown with a moderately sized tan head. Nice aroma - dark grapes, yeast, burnt sugar, spice and a bit of alcohol. Flavour - an unexpected bit of coffee off the top, followed by some spiciness (nutmeg?), licorice, some roast and smoke. Interesting, and a nice way to start another of our fantastic tasting sessions.
