Creamy, smooth dark mahogony with an epic lingering head. Gingerbread and raisin make up most of the aggresive aroma. Plum, cinnamon, yeasty bread, nutmeg, and a little Coca Cola make up the flavor. Mouthfeel is creamy and smooth. Aftertaste lingers with sweet Coca Cola malt and spice then blend with dry wood. Rerate 060705: This time I get a lot of semi-dried banana, like the chewy chunks you can get at Trader Joes. zathrus13 (1308), Mount Laurel, New Jersey, USA

Flavors are brown sugar, malt fruit, hops, and a rather large amount of spices. I’d like to try this again in a year or two to see how it ages. matta (1139), Tampa, Florida, USA

Pours with a dark coco body and a wispy light tan head. The aroma holds bright notes of mocha, coconut, almonds and apples. The palate is marvelous! Creamy & chewy… very velvety and robust… finish is a dry / sweet & spicy combination. The hops have blended nicely into the chocolaty / darkly kilned malts. Some dark pit-fruits and raisins creep in very nicely. I like Stone’s choice for yeast here… it’s not overly fruity and not one that goes tart with the passage of time.
Well Done, Stone! -One of the best Epic’s to date!

The aroma has notes of carmel, toffee, black malt, current, raisin, fig, cardamom, white pepper, peat moss, and musty yeast esters. The taste starts quite yesty with a lot of brown sugar and heavy malting upfront. Sublime notes of bitters and fruits run throughout the tasting as well. The finish is the best part of palate with a nice combination of spice characters and a touch of dark chocolate. The feel is lush and smooth but not heavy, the crispness and light salty nature keep the palate refreshed. Overall I think this is a hit with potential to become great. mdi (573), Nebraska, USA

Malt and yeast mix nicely for some fair complexity...I await the pouring of more of this brew. Goblincat (357), Westland, Michigan, USA

The nose seems like a mix of red grape, chocolate, malt, and maybe a touch of clove. The taste is complex and in several layers that progress in your mouth. It starts as almost a malty candy, moves to a kind of light spicy earthiness, and finishes with a smooth chocolate finale. JoeMcPhee (5022), Jackson Heights, New York, USA

Sweet malty aroma, plums, dried cherry, brown sugar, toast, clove and even some banana. A bit of chocolate and some leathery/tobacco like notes. Flavour is quite sweet up front with massive plummy notes all over it. Quickly shows off chocolate and licorice throughout the middle before the earthy hop flavour kicks in. Strongly roasty for the style and quite hoppy as well. As it warms there are some more decidedly non-traditional piny hop resins. Intensely flavoured and quite unusual. I found myself ready to dislike it at first, but once I got through the first 8 oz, I couldn’t wait to finish the rest. The different elements really came together and accentuate the positive in one another. Another year of age will help smooth out some of the rougher edges, but this is a seriously tasty beer even now. walleye (881), Sterling Heights, Michigan, USA
