Translucent dark red/brown with mostly lasting tan head and decent lacing. Spicy flavor: nutmeg, cinammon and clove. Very malty with slight soy sauce overtone. Medium/light carbonation. Oily/slick mouthfeel and a fairly long finish. Aftertaste is an extension of the flavor but with some bitterness added to the mix. Nice, but this should get even better with some bottle age. Complex flavor and aroma. Spiced, sweet malt, Belgian yeast, a touch of pineapple, maybe banana. Very fruity. I’ll be getting a few more of these. tiggmtl (4311), Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Jan 31, 2006 Strong resiny pine, orange-citrus, leafy hops along with a vinous fruitiness and some molasses like chewy sweetness in the aroma. Fizzy, fine bubbled, tan coloured head recedes fairly quickly to cover, then ring atop the opaque, dark, brown body. Bittersweet chocolate, mint, leafy, herbal, resiny citrus notes and a very strong nutty character with a mild but pleasant roastiness that appears in the finish. Although there are plenty of hops in this one, the malt still manages to be the star of the show. Medium body is quite lively with effervescent little bubbles that demand the tongue’s attention. Tulip glass. Just below cellar temperature. Bottle (Half Time, Sep-05).

Reminded me quite a bit of Trois Pistoles - plums, cherries, chocolate - only just not as refined as TP. Darkover (1313), Columbus, Ohio, USA

Flavor of sweet malt, some spice, yeast and hoppiness. Doesn’t really taste very much like a belgian beer. russnug (35), Erie, Pennsylvania, USA

| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Jul 9, 2005 Bottle. Very dark amber-mahogony beer with a nioce beige head. Rich malt aroma with some fruit and cola. Rich fruity/malty flavor - sweet malt, dates, raisins, yeasty spiciness. Full bodied. Easy to drink - hides alcohol well. Some cocoa and roastiness. What keeps this from being a great beer is that it misses the rich aftertaste. The flavor just sort of peters out without giving you enough satisfaction.
