Commercial Description:
A new Vertical Epic will be released every year, with the goal being to collect them all and have a Vertical Epic tasting once the final Epic is released on 12/12/12. Each new Stone Vertical Epic Ale will be release one YEAR, one MONTH and one DAY apart. This time around, we used no spices in the brewing of this beer. If you've tasted the beer before reading this, that may surprise you. The special Belgian yeast we used adds a distinctively spicy aroma and flavor. Roastiness, clove, hops, fruitiness, and those other great and funky phenols abound in the nose. What's in the flavor? You certainly get some dark roasted malts and alcohol overtones. What else? Hints of earthiness, chocolate/cocoa, hop spiciness, maybe even anise, and ... the incredible variety of complexities from the classic brewing ingredients of barley malt, hops, yeast and water, when applied with an artistic brewer's talent never ceases to amaze.

Deep brown color. Richness is exuded from this brew. Dried fruit, yeast and alcohol dominate the nose. Easy-drinking Belgian strong. Definitely could polish off a couple bombers of this. Rich, a little soy saucy at times (in a good way). Nice bitter finish. Really enjoyable. Can’t wait a few weeks for the next release.

Dark amber pour with a quickly dissipating head. Fruity aroma with cloves and spice. Taste features heavy bourbon notes, a little bit of chocolate, more cloves, cherry... very spicy and has a nice alcohol bite to it. I really like this one... too bad I’m too impatient for wait for it to age, I’m sure it would be even better.

Beautiful dark clear mahogany with a thick beige head. Aroma of clove, banana, roastiness and plenty of hops. Flavor has notes of plums, raisins, cherries, yeast, clove, banana, spiciness, floral hops, caramel, roasted/toasted malt and a little chocolate in the background. Pleasantly sweet, some hop bitterness at the end as it warms. A little alcohol detected in the finish. Medium-full body with a smooth texture and lively carbonation. Great head retention. I really enjoyed this one.

A dark ruby, translucent brewwith a small, tan head. A vague, earthy aroma as the glass approached the lips. The first sip had a mouth fulling, sheeting effect. The initial taste was that of a robust, roasted grain. This was followed by a slight sweetness which had fruity aspects but whose components were hard to identify. Then the hops came in to give the balance and leave an aftertaste. This lead to an immediate second sip to savor and try to identify the contributors to the complex flavor. Unsuccessful. I leaned back and just enjoyed the remainder of the big bottle.

Bottle. Pours a dark but clear rusty red. Thin light brown noodle. Great expanding aroma as it warms. I got nothing initially then the beer just open up to me, rich caramel malts, spicy bitter hop notes, sweet banana spices, and earthy alcohol bite. Nice medium body, delicate but not overbearing creaminess, chocolate notes, just wonderful soothing deep earthy musty basement notes. I found utter enjoyment while quaffing this beer over an hour period. Quite exceptional.

22 oz bottle. Thanks fly! It is a reddish/brown color with a nice head. The aroma has raisins, caramel and sweetness. The flavor is winey, sweet, raisiny, some roastiness, and yeasty. Nice combo. Should be interesting in 6 months. Great beer now anyway.

Pours mahogany brown with a small tan head. Yeasty, belgian aroma. Taste is dark fruit, roasted malt, coffee?, then a follow up of alcohol. This beer is quite interesting, starting of very belgian, then finishing very American, with the roasted notes and hops. Too much alcohol flavor right now. I assume this beer will mellow out a bit in the years and be quite a brew.

Bottle. Dark red brown colour with a medium beige head. Dark fruits, caramel aroma and taste, light alcoholic. Medium to full body with a sweet light dry, light alcoholic finish.
