| 4.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 5/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Jun 22, 2008 Hazy light mahogany pour supporting a dense dark khaki head with lacing like velcro. Dark fruits, figs, walnuts, toffee and semi-sweet chocolate in the aroma. Wonderfully complex palette of flavors with more dark fruits, caramel, a hint of coffee and butterscotch all shepharded about by a strong hand of sweet malt and Stone’s healthy hops. Long, sweet finish with a peppery flair and a rich, smooth texture. This was my only bottle so I won’t have one to crack open with an 06.06.06, 07.07.07 & 08.08.08 mini vertical later this summer but this one was worth the early peek. | 4.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 9/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Aug 15, 2005 Nice opulent mahogany color with some web cast tan markings for the head. Plums and prunes come out in the aroma as if they’ve been basking in wood lacquered bowls in a mixture of honey water, cinnamon and nutmeg. Whomph! Flavor rolls in with plump raisins and a heavy cinnamon and brown sugar marinade. Something about this reminds me of morning surprise bran muffins or Raisin Bran itself. Unique and quite tasty, all thanks to JPDIPSO for sharing another winner! johnyvt (157), West Hollywood, California, USA
| 4.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | May 13, 2005 Transparent brown/red pour with a big tan head that didn’t stick around too long. Spicy aroma of cloves and dark fruit. Nose is banannas and a little bit of alcohol, but that is quickly covered by a dark, roasted malt finish. Has a bit of Three Philosophers dark cherry taste. Other fruit, like plums. Yeasty. There’s chocolate, some detectable hops, and a lot of other subtle flavors that I imagine will come out more with age. Still, this is impressively drinkable now. lagermonkey (597), Marietta, Georgia, USA
| 4.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Jul 27, 2006 Pours dark brown with a creamy, thin tan head. Some light lacing. Smell is rich caramel. Light dark fruit aromas. Toffee and a light earthiness.
Taste takes the smell and extrapolates it to higher levels. More rich caramel and toffee. Lightly spicy (clove, black pepper and cinnamon). Hint of dark chocolate (!). Strident hops as it finishes. Warming alcohol. Mouth is rich and thick. Sticky finish and aftertaste. All things said, damn yummy. Very enjoyable beer and goes down way too smooth for words. Good stuff. cvillebeer (134), Charlottesville, Virginia, USA
| 4.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 5/5 | 17/20 | Jun 7, 2005 I have been looking forward to this myself and I am glad that i am not dissapointed. Pours a deep crimson-brown with a tall head that dissipates to a thin bead. The aroma is strongly yeasty with scents of alcohol, chocolate, spice and citrus. Isn’t it amazing what a yeast strain can do? the flavor is similar but with a hoppy-bitter undertone and finishes mostly dry. Since this is intentionally brewed to be aged, being a bit out of balance is expected and while the bitterness is not overpowering, it does seem out of place in a beer like this, but that should fade and mellow with age. There is a little alcohol burn as well that hopefully will blend in better as well. A fine ale with a promising future. SNOB (13), Portland, Oregon, USA
| 4.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 5/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | May 10, 2005 Pours nicely with a light brown head of substance. The beer is clear, and is redish with nearly a purple hue. You can easily smell the toasty grains (rye?) It has roasted sweet flavoer with faint citrusy tones. It is well carbonated, and has good mouthfeel. Excellent Brussels lacing, with every sip detectable. A solid beer, but I will be anxious to taste it in another 7 years to experience it at full potential. golubj (1300), Sunnyvale, California, USA
| 4.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 9/10 | 3/5 | 17/20 | Dec 24, 2007 Bottle at O’Brien’s. Brown-reddish pour. Aroma is very malty, raisins, and smoke. Flavor is brown sugar, slightly smoked / burnt malt, chocolate, and some hops in the finish. It might be time to drink this one. Alexanderj thought 4.2ish and that it was "a malt explosion / extravaganza." brianjames1 (322), Northridge, California, USA
