scotts66 (4), Washington, USA does not count May 23, 2009 Classic Double. Had a sample out of my cellar after nearly three years of waiting. Cant’ really tell it’s been aged aside from the hop taste being gone now. Look forward to another sample in a few years. Rciesla (2795), Exit 15W, New Jersey, USA May 21, 2009 Bottle. Pours a brown body with ruby hues and a tan head. Dried fruit, hints of plum, raisin, and licorice. Big etoh warming and caramel with some light cinnamon spice. Good brew. Beerman6686 (1107), Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, USA May 1, 2009 I finally get to try the beer thats on my birthday! Someone was so generous to share this with me on DLD this year. This poured a lighter brown color with an off white head. Aroma was lighter than I expected. It mainly consisted of some candy sdugar spices, and light malts. Flavor was very full of fruits, some sweet candy sugar and a hint of roastedness as well. This was pretty good stuff, especially at 3 years old. Sregnar35 (710), Rotterdam, New York, USA May 1, 2009 Not my fave stone beer. Poured a nice ruby color, but no great head. Hops mixed too strongly with sweet belgian flavors of fruity and gamey yeast. TURDFERGUSON (1448), Carrboro, North Carolina, USA Apr 15, 2009 Bottle shared by durhambeer. Thanks Bob! I remember having the fresh when it came out back in ’06, hard to believe its been almost 3 years since then. About the time I joined this site...anyway, this baby is past its prime as dubbels will get after 3 years in my experience. Oxidation is evident throughout the nose and flavor, some sweet, dark malts, raisins, rust, spices. Just not my cup of tea, may be great for others. emacgee (1656), Chapel Hill, North Carolina, USA Apr 7, 2009 Shared by durhambeer. Thanks Bob. Pours a dark black with ruby edges. Head is one finger creamy and mocha. Nose shows some oxidation, some caramel, raisiny, mildly fruity, rusty Dubbel feel. Flavor is sweet, shows some caramel, rusty dark wheat flavor. Interesting enough but not awesome, would like to have tried it fresh. durhambeer (989), Durham, USA Apr 7, 2009 Bottle, many thanks to rallison. What a sweet extra! Dark brown pour with light tan head. Molasses, roast, and slightly burnt caramel on the nose. Some smoke and peat. Hoppiness seems to be gone by now. Some chocolate and definitely a bit of oxidation, though it’s not overtaking the beer yet. An interesting take on a dubbel. robinvboyer (1265), Sturgeon Falls, Ontario, Canada Mar 12, 2009 Great aroma of dark malts, a little roasty, with some really nice deep earthy fruity aromas with a touch of yeast. The flavor is full bodied, and rich. Lots more of the earthy dark fruits, with a big dose of raisins, and plums. A superb example of the style, this has aged very very well.
