Drink4Satan (585), Bristol, Rhode Island, USA Dec 28, 2007 Shared with emerica56. Pours a headless near black colour with ruby brown edges. Interesting cider-like nose with notes of soil, grahm cracker, overripe dark pitted fruit and honey. The flavour is also cider-like with roasted malts, peppery spice, pitted fruit and cocoa. The finish is dry and hoppy with a earthy, chocolatey aftertaste that has notes of apricott. As advertised, I like how this dubbel is not astringently yeasty like many others. The texture is creamy and full with soft, massaging carbonation. Really nice double that separates itself from the rest. Alldaydrinker (557), Norwood, Massachusetts, USA Dec 28, 2007 Updated: Dec 30, 2007Courtesy of Emerica56! Pours a murky brown color with a small offwhite head. Nose of cocoa, old pennies, earthy malts, mollasses, and spices. Initial taste of mild cocoa, dark fruits, prunes are also apparent. Hint of earthiness lingers before finishing with mild bitter hops and syrupy stickness. Medium body smooth finish. Good palate duration. Dry finish. Very drinkable emerica56 (575), Bristol, Rhode Island, USA Dec 28, 2007 Thanks alot beer bill for sending me this in a trade. it was dumped into a snifter and had a dark nut brown with a thick head which faded right away and leaft a thin head and some minor streaks along the sides of the glass. the aroma has a lot of different things in it like hints of earth and soil as well as some mild traces of cider and fruits. There is also some hits of hops with roasted malt. Once the beer warms up and i took my first sip it had some creamy bitterness initially with spices like anise and some hints of clove. there is not much flavor lasting in your mouth once the beer has gone down your throat. Over all this is a very good beer, the booze is well hidden and this is a good beer to just sip on. doubleo (1096), San Diego, California, USA Dec 26, 2007 22oz. bomber. Pours a very dark brown with very little yellowish brown head.
Smells of toasty smokey malts, maybe a little coffee in there as well. Tastes of smokey malts, a touch woody, with some coffee and an alcohol finish. Thinnishon the palate, good carbonation. Very smooth for being such a dark beer.
One of the darkest Belgians that I’ve had but very, very drinkable. At 8.66% it packs a good punch as well. carl4beer (394), Fairfax Station, Virginia, USA Dec 21, 2007 Updated: May 25, 2008pours dark with a small bubbly head. aroma of raisons and dried fruit with a little bit of spice. mouthful continues the dried fruit theme with some prune followed by some spice, yeast, and a little alcohol in the finish.
tapped the cellar in April 08, this stuff ages sooooooo well. all the dried fruit is huge and no alcohol in finnish. I will bump the score to the great aging of this. chicagodri (1021), Chicago, Illinois, USA Dec 15, 2007 A dark brown from a 22 oz bomber. The beer smell great and is interesting. I can smell cloves, but I had a hard time picking out individual smells and tastes (maybe due to the fact it is 1.5 years old). Definitely fruity, and it was a very sweet beer. I think I like it more now then when I first had it a while ago. csbosox (1076), Prairie Village, Kansas, USA Dec 15, 2007 ’06 GABF RB tasting Dark fruit, yeast, vanilla, pepper/spice aroma. Taste is prunes/plums and yeast. boto (1319), Granby, Connecticut, USA Dec 9, 2007 22oz. bomber: This one pours an extremely dark, opaque brown. It is the darkest Dubbel that I have ever seen. There was a small tan head on it that drops away quickly. The aroma is complex. Some chocolate and smokiness comes to the top. There are some fruits and hops down in there also, but it is hard to distinguish individual notes. The flavor is complex also. A full richness, with a bit of sweetness. Some chocolate and fruits come to the top, as well as some hidden bitterness. A wonderful brew.
