picking up a lot of spicyness in the aroma with the ripe fruits,
the hot alcohol character has faded but is replaced with a big earthy presence that is drying it out too much and obscuring the ripe fruits, dark caramel is the only thing to stand up to the spicy and earthy bitterness, not sure where this beer is headed but I liked it better fresh

brigg (213), Charlottesville, Virginia, USA Aug 27, 2007 (bottle) Black body with minimal brown head. Faint aroma of sweet fruit, chocolate, roasted malt. Flavor is sweet with a slight tartness. Roasted malt flavor dominates with a fruity and slightly bitter aftertaste. Medium to full bodied. Indra (2018), Prairie Village, Kansas, USA Aug 25, 2007 22oz. bottle. Sweet and fruity aroma, with a combination of doughy, estery yeast traits, spice, faintly roasty, toffeeish malts, plum, raisin and some lightly floral notes. Deep, dark mahogany color, clear, with a lasting, fine head. Flavor is lightly bitter and spicy to start, turning more malty, with a darkly sweet undercurrent, and finishing with a blend of berryish fruit and faint alcohol, even shows some lingering cocoa very late. Very lightly vinous and acidic. Smooth and creamy on the palate with a full body, drying out to a certain degree by the end. Really quite nice. Should be interesting to see how this one ages. Rockinout (945), Kent, Ohio, USA Aug 24, 2007 Dark brown, yeasty, nutty, clove aroma, taste of clove and banana, light on the palate. Finally got around to rating it. radiomgb (1920), Peterborough, Ontario, Canada Aug 24, 2007 Clear dark mahogany in colour, long lasting off-white coloured head, good lacing. The aroma is malty, earthy, some gingerbread, molasses, moderate caramel sweetness. The flavour has some spice, dark malts, moderate sweetness, cookies, pepper, yeasty, some light chocolate. Moderately sweet mouthfeel, medium body, medium carbonation. Finishes sweet, some alcohol makes an appearance, lingering. The best of the Vertical Epics to date. I can see this one lasting.

adrian910ss (1395), philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA Aug 16, 2007 22 oz bomber. Pours a very dark brown cola with a medium beige head. Aroma of banana nut, toffee and soda. Taste is malty with a banana nut flavor and hints of mild spice and light pepper. Not bad but not spectacular. probstk (1005), Nepean, Ontario, Canada Aug 12, 2007 Bomber via Lubiere, served at cellar temp in a tulip glass. JN12/07.
App.: Deep cola with deep ruby hues, clear, nice tan head.
Aroma: Nutty and sweet, caramel and dark dried fruits; herbs and vanilla – like rootbeer; milk chocolate.
Palate: Medium body and fairly soft carbonation. Smooth.
Flav.: Dark dried fruits, chocolate and vanilla, a touch nutty; semi-sweet, a little alcohol and restrained bitterness.
OK, so I couldn’t wait another 5+ years. Would the beer last that long anyway?
