kimcgolf (824), Dacula, Georgia, USA Aug 5, 2007 I thought this was only fitting for my 500th beer rated. Poured to an opaque jet black color, with thick tan head that lingered throughout most of the drink and left good lacing. Aroma was a malty dark fruit (grapes and figs) with a hint of alcohol. As the beer warmed, the alcohol became more prominent, but not enough to obverwhelm the fruit. Mouthfeel was tingly and sweet, and the taste was a pleasant continuation of the same malty dark fruit as was found in the aroma.
This blend led nicely to a nice, long warming finish. The bottle said it was best to wait until 12-12-2012 to enjoy this; howver, it was just fine now. Beware....Quite a buzz just from this bomber, so be careful if you let it sit 5 more years!!! beerbuzzmontreal (2909), Montreal, Quebec, Canada Aug 5, 2007 Pours a clear dark brown color with a thin light brown head. The aroma is sweet and smoky. The flavor is also sweet and smoky with dark malts, chocolate and a bitter finish. The body is light to medium with soft carbonation. Ibrew2or3 (2714), Safety Harbor, Florida, USA Aug 3, 2007 I believe this was courtesy of DragonStout. Pours a deep brown with amber hues and tan head. The aroma is sweet and fruity with added tartness. I think I smell wood too. The flavor starts off with dried figs and plums without being too barleywine like. I also get some hotness and caramelized malt sweetness. Nice. Could use more aging. swoopjones (1862), Buffalo, New York, USA Jul 30, 2007 on tap @ BCTC 2007. Dark brown opaque brew. Chocolate & coffee, roasty. medium to full bodied. very smooth. dark fruit some spice. well done nahthan (129), Oakland, California, USA Jul 30, 2007 Nice and dark with a thick viscosity that lets you know right away you’re in for an alcohol bomb. Nice complexity. Roasty, and a little smoky. If someone gave this to me and told me this was barrel aged, I’d probably believe them. Sometimes dubbels are a bit too sweet and thick in the mouth, this was not. Very tasty esters from the yeast - plum, dried fruits, a little fig and some moderate clove/phenolics. Very digestable. Nice dubbel. I think I’ll keep the other bottle for a few more years. Kasteelfreak (341), Fallbrook, California, USA Jul 27, 2007 I haven’t been into the VE’s too much, but thought I would take one out of the cellar and what do you know, it’s damn good. Perfumey, spice aroma - reminds me of when I was macking on some girl’s neck at Christmas time when I was younger. The off white head reactivates nicely with a gentle swirl.. Color is a nice opaque brown/black with tints of orange. Taste is spicey, raisony- sweet with and orange peel-like, smokey bitterness. Yeastiness is present but is not overpowering. Very nice thenick (742), North Bellmore, New York, USA Jul 24, 2007 Pours a deep brown with an off-white head. Aroma is a mix of alcohol, dark fruit, and spices. Taste is a great complex mix of malt, spice, hop, and dark fruit. A wonderful brew from Stone. HopDuvel99 (39), Tennessee, USA Jul 23, 2007 Dark brown with a decent, tan head. Aroma is spicy, licorice, and alcoholic. Medium-bodied with a creamy/foamy mouthfeel. Malty, sweet, roasty, and spicy. Hops are in the background, more obvious at the finish. Very tasty and complex.
