rmalloy (195), los angeles, California, USA Oct 9, 2006 Good slow sipper. The focus is on bitter flavors--dark espresso, hops, wood, and cloves. A little bit of roundness with milk chocolate and prunes. Balanced caramel sweetness. Tastes more like a stout than a Belgian ale. Not complex except at the back of the tongue. A good but not great beer. Papsoe (14613), Frederiksberg, Denmark Oct 9, 2006 (Bottle 65 cl) Clear, dark brown with a warm, reddish hue and a beige head. Aroma of yeast and dried fruit. Fairly full-bodied, sweet and very fruity with some accents of dried fruits shining through in particular. Lightly vinous notes and a touch of oak. 061006 Emil (6075), Copenhagen, Denmark Oct 9, 2006 Bottle. Dark brown colour with a big beige head. Sweet, fruity, spicy aroma and taste. Medium to full body with a light sweet, light alcoholic finish. aspidites (1274), manteca, California, USA Oct 9, 2006 Phenolic and mildly spicy with a good initial mouthfeel that falls flat at mid palate. Caramel and toffee notes balancing on a very mild backbone of dark candies fruit. eboats (887), Omaha, Nebraska, USA Oct 8, 2006 Pours deep amber. So deep in fact that it almost seems black. Foamy light brown head. Aroma is yeast, some fruits, and bubble gum. Flavor is malty with spices. Silky texture with fizziness as it crosses the tongue. Spicey belgian yeast. madsberg (4873), Søborg, Denmark Oct 8, 2006 Bottled. Dark reddish brown coloured. Light brown head. Sweetness, fruits, caramel, liqourice and ligth spice. Flavour has alcohol, fruits, spices and light caramel. Light bodied and quite watery. Sweet alcoholdense end. joergen (8429), Frederiksberg, Denmark Oct 8, 2006 Bottle.
Clear red brown coloured with a beige head.
Aroma of caramel, dried fruits and spices.
Flavour of dried fruits, spices, fruits and liquorice. Ungstrup (14724), Frederiksberg, Denmark Oct 4, 2006 A red-brown beer with a slight haze under a brown head. The aroma is sweet malty with primary notes of caramel. The flavor is sweet malty again with primary notes of caramel, but also a light roasted malt note. In the beginning it seem thin, but then the 8.7% ABV creeps up on You. It leaves a note of soy sauce on the lips. I don’t find it complex enough, but still a nice beer.
