Mungo (2474), Southampton, Hampshire, England Sep 22, 2006 Bottle @ Kookfest. Some slightly roasty malts with liquoricey edge and yeastiness (as in yeast rather than yeast produced flavours). Mild piney hops and toffee in the mouth. OldRaspy (292), Virginia Beach, Virginia, USA Sep 18, 2006 Poured from a 22oz bottle a deep maghogany with a small tan head. Aroma was of hops molasses and oak. Flavor was a bit sweet yet spicy at the same time with a good hop bitterness and a wonderful alcohol warming. punkrkr27 (608), Berkley, Michigan, USA Sep 17, 2006 Pours a deep ebony-brown with a tan, quickly diminishing head. Smells of raisins, figs, brown sugar, slightly burnt malts, and alcohol. Flavor is lots of dark fruits, burnt malts and bannana flambe. Very complex flavor and palate but seems to clash. Bit thin in the body and high carbonation. Panzuriel (992), Westerville, Ohio, USA Sep 16, 2006 Dark brown liquid with a ruddy cast. fine beige foam. Nose is tangy floral hops Taste is a mild but complex blend of malt and good hops in an abbey style. Texture is medium but full. Finish is hops developing into a nice back of the mouth tang. very nice ale indeed. JoeMcPhee (4893), Jackson Heights, New York, USA Sep 15, 2006 Very dark brown with a thick creamy tan head. Aroma is of dark toasted wheat, sweet spicy yeast, some light licorice, toasty and with lots of deep dark malts. Some cherry but not a whole lot of plumminess that I normally go for. The flavour is very toasty and chewy. A bit of roastiness on the back of the dark malts and dark spices. Dry, fairly bitter finish. As it warms more of the yeasty spice comes forward bringing a bit more balance than was present initially. jeffin7 (610), Silver Spring, Maryland, USA Sep 14, 2006 Pours deep brown with a medium head that fades. Aroma is of a fresh vial of belgian yeast, banana, plum, lots of spice, raisin, some biscuity malt, and a slight waft of alcohol. Flavor is toasty cedar, raisins, chocolate, plum, some spice, some biscuity malt. A mix of cedar and roast rise up and dry out the mouth a bit on the finish. Medium body slightly watery palate. Very interesting beer with the mix of spice, roast, and cedar. The drying of the cheaks and tongue get a little annoying after a bit. Terminus (1955), Las Cruces, New Mexico, USA Sep 13, 2006 bottle-well well, i have to say that this one was a little better than the god awful 10th aniv. pours deep mahogony red with a nice fizzy brown head . lots of dusty esters and dark fruit on the nose with a boatload of brown sugar and allspice. flavors are toasty, lightly roasted, light caramel with a lot of coca and clove. some salty flavor on the finish. very complex and interesting and may develop over time. body is lush with ample carbonation but true to the style. not bad and a decent american version of a dubbel. bfeldmann (1042), Wilmington, Delaware, USA Sep 12, 2006 Poured a dark brown small head. Was a little thin out of the gate. Aroma was of malts caramel and chocolate. Flavor was smokey choclate wasn’t bad just was way different then i expected. Good though
