Commercial Description:
APPEARANCE: Dark brown to black with a tan head. AROMA: Fruity, phenolic yeast notes with dark malt roastiness. FLAVOR: Clove, smooth roasted malt, mild spiciness, and some hop bitterness. A dry finish with apparent alcohol. PALATE: Medium to full-bodied, good carbonation…no astringency. OVERALL: Very full and complex…not sure how it will develop.

22oz bottle. Poured a clear dark brown color with red light shining through. Head was thick, light tan, and had a yellow tint. Head retention and lacing were good. Aroma was of clove, banana, subdued chocolate, and light molasses. There was also an occasional whiff of old school pencil lead. Medium bodied with a creamy mouth feel. The flavor profile included the likes of molasses, roasted malt, clove, light banana, and a hint of smoke. I liked this one a lot and preferred it over the ’05 Vertical.

Courtesy richlikebeer. Pours a dark brown color with a tan head. Aroma of malts, hops, and spice. Taste much like the aroma=roasted malts, hops, and some spice. Dry finish. No excessive bitterness.

22 oz Bottle from the Brickskeller. Pours an almost black color. Aroma is roasted malts with touches of chocolates, cherry, and other dried fruits. The flavor was of dark fruits, malts, with touches of vanilla in there with some alcohol in there as well.

bottle.... pours a very similar to the ’05, perhaps a little less dark and a thinner, more wispy head.... this one stuck to a more caramel malt, toffee, and chocolate nose profile.... flavors didn’t provide much of anything new but perhaps some dark fruit and some bitterness came through which didn’t totally exist in the aroma..... not that it’s much of comparison, but for those keeping score at home, i liked the 06 just slightly better than the 05.

Stone Half Vertical Tasting, Popeye’s. Very dark brown color, cherries, oranges, dark chocolate and sharp alcoholic nose. Liquorice, milk chocolate, brandy, oranges in the mouth. Finish is a bit rough and alcohol comes through too much. Needs more time in the cellar.

Well this was mighty tasty, which is a little surprising since im not a huge Dubbel fan. Probably liked it due to the fact it was alot thicker and darker, not overly sweet or carbonated. Not to mention Stone has possibly the best looking bottles in the game, it would be nice if i didnt have to drive miles to smuggle it into IL.

22 oz. bottle. Pours slightly hazy reddish brown in color with a medium sized light tan head that diminishes rather quickly. The aroma is fruity with vanilla, yeast, and toasted caramel malts. The flavor is roasted malt, fruits, vanilla, yeast, alcohol, and spicey brown sugar. There is some drying and a bit of bitterness at the finish.
