Tap @ Stone Winter Storm ’08: Poured a clear dark brown color with an off-white head. Semi-sweet fruity and roasty aroma and flavor. Dry clean finish. Not bad but nothing real special going on.

22oz bottle. Randomly scored from keg n bottle in I.V., sitting next to the 777 and hadn’t noticed it before. Deep dark brown like the depths of hell... ok thats the only satanic reference I’m going to make... maybe. Brown sugar, prunes, and molasses in the aroma. The flavor is pretty sweet, but not out of control. Almost reminds me of a doppelbock with some nuttiness to it. Just a little bitterness from the roast, and a little yeast in there too. An enjoyable dubbel, but I’m not getting the complexities that I love about westmalle or rochefort. Definite bonus points for the name; I had Iron Maiden playing in my head the entire time. I didn’t get to try it fresh, but a year and a half of age may have blended the flavors a little much.

Brown with a khaki head. Faint smell of blackened malts with a light sweetness. Full bodied and very smooth. A mildly sweet flavor with blackened malts is same as the nose. A nice dubbel here. 111406

Sept. 2006 - Dark brown pour with moderate head and little lacing. Wheaty and clovey aroma. The flavor was dark fruits, chocolate and phenols. Wonderfully complex. A really nice dubbel.

Part of a vertical in Tokyo; thanks marc! Deep brown with a nice tan head. Aroma of toasted malts, anise, molasses, light spice, light smoke and alcohol. Enjoyable body, medium with nice carbonation. Flavor of toasted malts, yeast, light molasses, noticeable alcohol, and caramelized malts. Finish is rather alcoholic. Still pretty young, probably has a real nice future.

From IrishBoy via trade. Thanks Richard! Poured ultra dark brown with lighter ruby highlights streaming through. A small off-white head formed and quickly collapsed back into the beer. Spots of lacing. The aroma is chocolate, raisins, light spice and very little yeast. The flavor is chocolate, roasted malt, some alcohol and plenty of raisin/plum sweetness. Nice mouthfeel. Very nice.

A very interesting dark beer. Beautiful color with hints of deep violet. A flavor that isn’t exactly round (not sweet enough). I didn’t think this was a very good example of a dubbel. Didn’t pop enough, wasn’t bready or floury or sweet. Tastes like a better version of Salvation.
