Commercial Description:
APPEARANCE: Dark brown to black with a tan head. AROMA: Fruity, phenolic yeast notes with dark malt roastiness. FLAVOR: Clove, smooth roasted malt, mild spiciness, and some hop bitterness. A dry finish with apparent alcohol. PALATE: Medium to full-bodied, good carbonation…no astringency. OVERALL: Very full and complex…not sure how it will develop.

A double dark brown pour with a brown/tan head and lace. Light coffee and licorish on the nose. A peaty smokey flavor with a light hint of abv. A palate that is lightly foamed. Nice beer almost like a smoke. Thanks to Shag for drinking it with me as we watched M.Phelps shatter the olympic gold medal mark. cheerstevo

Bomber. Pours a very dark brown color, loooks kind of like a coke color. Sweet yeasty aroma, lots of dark fruit. Very rich right up front. Thick roasted dark fruit flavors. A touch of yeastiness. Finish is hoppy bitter. Slightly sour. Alcohol is very well hidden. Fairly spicy as well. Very tasty.

Another big thanks to Travis (Dunedin Brewery) for this bottle. Pours copper, with beige head. Aroma is fruity, notes of vanilla and dark fruits (cherry) malts. Taste was amazingly nice, well aged. A lot more complex than the vertical ’05. Loads of nice dark fruits (cherry / prune) and sweet candi sugar.

22 oz. bottle. Pours a deep, clear ruby red with a thin off-white head. Very little lacing. Very nice aroma of prunes, raisins and roasted malt. The initial flavor is again very nice with notes of prunes, roasted malt, and cloves. The flavor however lacks depth. The fruits and spices seem to evaporate after the initial taste. Warming alcohol finish with only slight bitterness. Perhaps this beer will develop more body over time, but I was not impressed with this year’s issue.

bottle. very dark brown with ruby highlights. Aroma is good and with roasted and chocolate malt, dark fruit, and earthy. Taste is malty, sweet, dark fruit-plums, raisins, with chocolate hints and a roasty, actually smoky and spicy smooth bitterness in the finish.

bottle-well well, i have to say that this one was a little better than the god awful 10th aniv. pours deep mahogony red with a nice fizzy brown head . lots of dusty esters and dark fruit on the nose with a boatload of brown sugar and allspice. flavors are toasty, lightly roasted, light caramel with a lot of coca and clove. some salty flavor on the finish. very complex and interesting and may develop over time. body is lush with ample carbonation but true to the style. not bad and a decent american version of a dubbel.

Deep crimsony brown, thin light tan creamy head. Complex nose of candied dark fruits, and spiced black bread, with soft notes of cedar, rye, and caramelized banana. Flavor is all about dark fruit and spice with a nice light hop bitterness throughout. Medium bodied, soft carbonation, light bittersweet, dark fruity finish. It’s not always about the hops....
