Sweet and malty aroma with some raisins, port wine, spices and buttery toffee. Quite the enticing aroma. Color is a cloudy dark crimson brown. Very impressive when held up to a bright light. Sweet and malty with lots of dark fruit, more spices and a noticable alcohol kick. Some roastyness present also. Finishes oily and warming. A pretty darn good dubbel.

Nose-smokey, plastic, meaty, sausage. Taste-smoked hard meats, sausage, light banana and phenols, light wheat, cherry, slightly tannic, licorice/anise. Smoke dominates the whole thing. | 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Oct 13, 2006 Bottle. Deep copper with a frothy beige head. Sweet malty aroma with some creamy chocolate, dried fruit, clove, caramel. Good body to this one, too. Nice feel in the mouth. Sweet on the flavor but will cellar well and mellow out. Delicious. My favorite after the 02.02.02. illinismitty (1799), Nashville, Tennessee, USA
| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Nov 4, 2006 Part of the 02 thru 06 vertical at YourDarkLord’s house. This bottle was my contribution to the vertical. Pours dark brown with some copper highlights. Aroma reminds me of a weizenbock, wheaty, sweet, and estery. Initial flavor of dark wheat malt, brown sugar, raisens, and a hint of peat. Caramel and yeast come through the middle. The finish is dry with a medium bitterness. JCB (1786), Durham, North Carolina, USA
| 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 17/20 | May 28, 2007 Well, this beer has aged rather nicely. I remember drinking it last year when it was first released and thinking it was a competent but pretty indistinct dubbel. That opinion has changed, for sure. Improbably, it seems even hotter now than when it first came out, but in general the flavors have really started to emerge (even though the beer can’t be said to have mellowed). Lots of fig and beef jerky, with a hint of molasses, like some hybrid old ale. Not so much carbonation right now, but a full body nonetheless. This is tasting just great, and I’m glad I have another bottle to sample down the road. sunevdj (1785), Copenhagen OE, Denmark

Smells winey. Full flavored beer with lots of residual sugars. Portish with hints of and band-aid. ryan (1781), Beltsville, Maryland, USA
| 3.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 2/5 | 12/20 | Jul 21, 2006 Thanks to kmweaver. Dark, brown body with small tan head. The aroma is clove, bubblegum and roast. The flavor is clove, banana, bubblegum, roast, candi sugar, slightly burnt. The mouthfeel is thin, dry and rough with a warm, astringent finish. tjthresh (1779), Greenfield, Indiana, USA
| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 16/20 | Jan 12, 2007 Appears black until held to light. Then you get some nice ruby high lights to go with is slight tan head. The aroma very rum raisin, or bread pudding. Flavors of mulled spices, chocolaty robustness, warm alcohol, and a nice touch of bitterness. Palate is rich and well rounded. I do think I made a mistake by opening this today. With luck, I will be able to purchase another bottle.
