Commercial Description:
APPEARANCE: Dark brown to black with a tan head. AROMA: Fruity, phenolic yeast notes with dark malt roastiness. FLAVOR: Clove, smooth roasted malt, mild spiciness, and some hop bitterness. A dry finish with apparent alcohol. PALATE: Medium to full-bodied, good carbonation…no astringency. OVERALL: Very full and complex…not sure how it will develop.

So glad I scored a bottle of this in Ohio. Very dark brown with reddish highlights, thick tan head. Plenty of malt and plums and roasted notes in the nose. Creamy palate that is sugary, a tiny bit sour, with malt and a bit of hops. The alcohol is well disguised. The monks would be happy with it.

Bomber via Lubiere, served at cellar temp in a tulip glass. JN12/07.

App.: Deep cola with deep ruby hues, clear, nice tan head. Aroma: Nutty and sweet, caramel and dark dried fruits; herbs and vanilla – like rootbeer; milk chocolate. Palate: Medium body and fairly soft carbonation. Smooth. Flav.: Dark dried fruits, chocolate and vanilla, a touch nutty; semi-sweet, a little alcohol and restrained bitterness.

OK, so I couldn’t wait another 5+ years. Would the beer last that long anyway?

Purchased this 22oz bottle at Whole Foods in La Jolla, CA. Pours a dark brown color with a nice tan head. From when I opened the bottle to the pour, i could smell the fruit. Banana’s come to mind. Figs and vanilla. Nice taste as well. Same as the aroma, except creamy. A nice beer for the Vertical Epic series.

Pours a dark brown color with a medium brown head. Aroma is of roasted malts, chocolate, caramel, dark fruits, and spices. Flavor was mostly the same with the more subtle flavors first that give way to the alcohol and slight bitterness. The bitterness lingers a little. Absolutely wonderful brew. I think I’m going to age a bottle of this.

Bottled after shuffling some snow. Nice solid dubbel. Nice "light" malt flavor. all the way through. Alcohol was hidden rather well.
