Incredible dark brown pour, little light passes through this one. Poured down the center of my goblet the huge tan head fizzes for a while and ultimately vanishes save for a mild ring around the edge. The coolest visual is a trippy tan galaxy that appears while I swirl the glass. As it warmed up a bit the aroma really comes through: hearty malt with some wheat and also generous scents of dark fruit, black licorice, banana, clove, and star anise. Mouthfeel is rich and full nice light alcohol burn that evaporates. Flavor is outstanding touching on all of the flavors found in the aroma with a more prominant alcohol accent. There is also a nice smokey flavor that comes through really helping out with the malt and dark fruits. A familiar yeastiness is also tasted letting me know that this was carefully brewed by Stone. Great beer, I’m a touch sad that I missed the first handful of installments for the Vertical Epic Series, but be sure that I will not pass up the ones to come. haddon90 (1036), Alexandria, Virginia, USA

Pours a dark brown color with a nice tan head. From when I opened the bottle to the pour, i could smell the fruit. Banana’s come to mind. Figs and vanilla. Nice taste as well. Same as the aroma, except creamy. A nice beer for the Vertical Epic series. alobar (1032), Harleysville, Pennsylvania, USA

Aroma of malts, hops, and spice. Taste much like the aroma=roasted malts, hops, and some spice. Dry finish. No excessive bitterness. Lowe1983 (1029), Fairborn, Ohio, USA
| 4.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 18/20 | Jun 28, 2006 Pours a dark brown color with a medium brown head. Aroma is of roasted malts, chocolate, caramel, dark fruits, and spices. Flavor was mostly the same with the more subtle flavors first that give way to the alcohol and slight bitterness. The bitterness lingers a little. Absolutely wonderful brew. I think I’m going to age a bottle of this. dberger624 (1028), Phila, Pennsylvania, USA

Nice solid dubbel. Nice "light" malt flavor. all the way through. Alcohol was hidden rather well. Mangino (1027), Mississippi, USA
| 3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 2/5 | 12/20 | Jun 25, 2006 Pours a dark brown color, small off white head. Aroma is strong banana, very strong fresh banana. Flavor is a banana chocolate split with some clove and other standard spices sitting atop. Thinking weizenbock more than dubbel. badnewsbeers (1026), Grand Rapids, Michigan, USA
