Bottle courtesy of Naven. Looks like a watered-down version of an imp. stout. Smoke, oak, fruit, and toasted malt flavors. Possibly a bit watered-down finish w/ a mild alcohol spiciness.

22oz. bottle. Deep ruby-brown, nearly opaque, with a medium sized brown head. Heavy astringent phenol yeast aromatics, clove and some banana. Heavy clove and pineapple esters up front, melds into some bubblegum, crystal malt, and some nutty/toasty malt characters. Tinges of chalky chocolate in the finish reinforce a mild roastiness and some residual fruit esters, primarily banana. Mouthfeel is a slightly heavy medium, somewhat hot as it warms, fairly lusterous but not dry.

A very interesting dark beer. Beautiful color with hints of deep violet. A flavor that isn’t exactly round (not sweet enough). I didn’t think this was a very good example of a dubbel. Didn’t pop enough, wasn’t bready or floury or sweet. Tastes like a better version of Salvation.

Mine looked and tasted alot like a dunkel. Extremely dark brown color, but watery, with a whispy white head. Smells of yeast, dark fruit and medicine. Flavor is mild, slightly malty, very fruity with a heavy yeast flavor. Slightly bitter on the finish. Very drinkable. Rerate 5/13/2008 at Brickskeller’s Lupulin Reunulin event. Ar - 7, App - 4, Flv - 7, Fin - 4, Ovr - 15. Greg Koch called this "typically Belgian", whatever that means. Pours a nearly opaque dark brown, amber with a thin eggshell head. Aroma is peaty, sugary, sweet malt with some Belgian candy and yeast. Flavor has plenty of sweet malt, some definite funk, cocoa, yeast, rum, cane sugar, banana and some tropical fruit. Thick body, lasting slightly smoky flavor. This has aged very well, the malty is a lot chewier now than when fresh.

Dark brown, yeasty, nutty, clove aroma, taste of clove and banana, light on the palate. Finally got around to rating it.

Bottle pours dark brown with reddish edges and a thin beige head. Aroma is roast malt, coffee, a bit of sweet malt, and some dark fruit. Flavor is sweet malt, ripe plum, raisin, with a bit of the roastiness showing in the finish.

Thanks to egajdzis for this... Appears a dark brown with red hues around the edges. A nice light tan head slowly fades out and leaves streaks of lacing around the tulip glass. Smell is of candy sugar, Belgian Chimay yeast, cocoa, light wood, mild caramel, light banana, and hints of fruit. Taste is of the same aromas with a mild smack of vanilla in there. Mouthfeel is sugary, complex, and a bit yeasty. This one will age well

7/22/06: Bottle.
Brown-black body, opaque with a deep almond colored head. Sweet malt nose. Flavors include brown sugar, caramel, coffee, bitter hop and some toasty-ness.
