| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 16/20 | Sep 17, 2006 Pours a deep ebony-brown with a tan, quickly diminishing head. Smells of raisins, figs, brown sugar, slightly burnt malts, and alcohol. Flavor is lots of dark fruits, burnt malts and bannana flambe. Very complex flavor and palate but seems to clash. Bit thin in the body and high carbonation. tbookman (618), Ephrata, Pennsylvania, USA
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Oct 16, 2006 Very deep brown with a thin sticky head. Aroma is toffeeish with notes of caramel and roasted malt. Flavor is very rich - body was pretty meaty and still smooth. Kind of young, probably needs to be cellared as suggested on the bottle. Still a nice brew. jeffin7 (610), Silver Spring, Maryland, USA
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 16/20 | Sep 14, 2006 Pours deep brown with a medium head that fades. Aroma is of a fresh vial of belgian yeast, banana, plum, lots of spice, raisin, some biscuity malt, and a slight waft of alcohol. Flavor is toasty cedar, raisins, chocolate, plum, some spice, some biscuity malt. A mix of cedar and roast rise up and dry out the mouth a bit on the finish. Medium body slightly watery palate. Very interesting beer with the mix of spice, roast, and cedar. The drying of the cheaks and tongue get a little annoying after a bit. AllAboutStout (605), Cincinnati, Ohio, USA
| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 9/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Jul 3, 2008 Pours a dark ruby brown in color. A head formed on the pour, but was gone not too long after. Smell is very dark, ripe, juicy fruits and some black licorice. Taste is along the same lines, but with more of the licorice flavor coming through. Perfect amount of carbonation and wonderful creaminess on the mouthfeel. This one has suredly stood up to the test of time. Good beer. hezron (602), Viroqua, Wisconsin, USA
| 3.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Jul 3, 2006 Banana, burnt popcorn and toasted malt aroma. Weird,..smells a bit like a dunkelweiss. Dark brown in color with a thin, brown head. Toasted chocolate malt with an aftertaste of burnt popcorn. Not a fan of roasted malt in a double. Medium body, lighter texture. Thanks again to 1FastSTi for bringing the dubbel! Beaver (598), Fort Collins, Colorado, USA
| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Aug 16, 2006 Updated: Oct 13, 200622 oz bottle. Pours a light brown with red highlights. It has a smallish slightly fizzy head that quickly dissipates to a thin collar.
The aroma is banana, cloves, yeast and some dark fruits.
The flavor is sweet and sugary initially leading to some banana and cloves with a spicy yeasty, peppery alcohol and slightly bitter finish. The mouthfeel is medium to full with soft carbonation.
Overall, I don’t normally care for sweet or banana flavors in beer, but I was surprised to find that I liked this one. The flavors mesh well together.
