Smell is very dark, ripe, juicy fruits and some black licorice. Taste is along the same lines, but with more of the licorice flavor coming through. Perfect amount of carbonation and wonderful creaminess on the mouthfeel. This one has suredly stood up to the test of time. Good beer. hezron (604), Viroqua, Wisconsin, USA
| 3.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Jul 3, 2006 Banana, burnt popcorn and toasted malt aroma. Weird,..smells a bit like a dunkelweiss. Dark brown in color with a thin, brown head. Toasted chocolate malt with an aftertaste of burnt popcorn. Not a fan of roasted malt in a double. Medium body, lighter texture. Thanks again to 1FastSTi for bringing the dubbel! Funknmilla (603), Phoenixville, Pennsylvania, USA

| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Aug 16, 2006 Updated: Oct 13, 200622 oz bottle. Pours a light brown with red highlights. It has a smallish slightly fizzy head that quickly dissipates to a thin collar.
The aroma is banana, cloves, yeast and some dark fruits.
The flavor is sweet and sugary initially leading to some banana and cloves with a spicy yeasty, peppery alcohol and slightly bitter finish. The mouthfeel is medium to full with soft carbonation.
Overall, I don’t normally care for sweet or banana flavors in beer, but I was surprised to find that I liked this one. The flavors mesh well together. SQNfan (591), Wheaton, Illinois, USA

Aromas and flavors were quite malty with flavors of fig, caramel and chocolate. This was medium-bodied with nice richness and on the sweet side. bdigital (590), Ft Wayne, Indiana, USA
| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Jun 30, 2007 Dark mahogany pour with no head. Smoky, fruity, malt aroma. Very smooth mouth feel. The taste on this followed the path of the aroma but with a more pronounced malt flavor than anything else. The alcohol definitely came through as it warmed.
