Commercial Description:
APPEARANCE: Dark brown to black with a tan head. AROMA: Fruity, phenolic yeast notes with dark malt roastiness. FLAVOR: Clove, smooth roasted malt, mild spiciness, and some hop bitterness. A dry finish with apparent alcohol. PALATE: Medium to full-bodied, good carbonation…no astringency. OVERALL: Very full and complex…not sure how it will develop.

Pours out very dark and the familiar aroma of Stone’s Belgian yeast strain is immediately evident. The usual clove and banana are present as is a good amount of smokey roastiness and some muted dark fruit richness. That, however, is contrasted by a surprisingly light body which works both for and against this beer. The high alcohol content is evident though well balanced. Another enjoyable beer in the Epic series--will taste again in six months.

Copying from my tasting notes. Bottle. Dark brown pour with a tiny brown head. Fruit and spices on the nose. Taste of old fruit and lots of malt.

On tap at Winterstorm. Dark red brown with a determined tan head. Not what I was expecting based on the other 0 /0 /0 brews. Dark fruit, brown sugar, and chocolate nose. Warm and sweet in the mouth. Full. Smooth. Really good.

Bottle. Pours a very dark, dark brown, with a thin tan head. Very roasted malty aroma, with some spices and some dark fruits. Very nice mouthfeel. Creamy and smooth finish. Flavor is mostly the roasted malts, with some fruity sweetness and a splash of hops. Very tasty. Very drinkable. I am glad to have a few bottles to cellar.

From bomber. Dark, ruby pour with thin tan head. Nose is burnt Belgian candy sugar, anise(?) and vanilla. Flavor follows with alcohol in the finish. Palate is smooth. Another one that needs to sit.
