Semi-sweet fruity and roasty aroma and flavor. Dry clean finish. Not bad but nothing real special going on. jazz88 (2237), San Francisco, California, USA

Richly spiced aroma with cloves, raisins, banana, candy, chocolate and bread. The spiced aroma comes through well on the palate with a light yet powerful zing on the tongue. notalush (2675), Denver, Colorado, USA
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Jul 9, 2006 Dark plum color, with a quickly diminishing, tan head - aroma of clove, dark fruit (fig, plum), candi sugar, caramel, toffee - quite full-flavored - begins with a touch of coffee-like bitterness, followed by sweet toffee and dark fruit flavors, a touch of smokey/peaty, almost scotch ale-like flavors, followed still by some nutmeg and clove - a little thin on the back end - otherwise a solid brew - reminds me a little of what North Coast seemed to be trying to do with Brother Thelonius, but whereas North Coast failed, Stone most certainly did not. | 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Oct 25, 2006 Nose of sweet caramel and dark malts. Almost black, minimal vanishing tan head, crystal clear, no lace. Taste is more of a stout than an Abbey Dubbel ... with strong flavors of chocolate and licorice and dried fruit and coffee and dark malts ... but the hopping is more interesting than a stout and the yeast is Belgian. Enjoyable. jeffin7 (610), Silver Spring, Maryland, USA
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 16/20 | Sep 14, 2006 Pours deep brown with a medium head that fades. Aroma is of a fresh vial of belgian yeast, banana, plum, lots of spice, raisin, some biscuity malt, and a slight waft of alcohol. Flavor is toasty cedar, raisins, chocolate, plum, some spice, some biscuity malt. A mix of cedar and roast rise up and dry out the mouth a bit on the finish. Medium body slightly watery palate. Very interesting beer with the mix of spice, roast, and cedar. The drying of the cheaks and tongue get a little annoying after a bit. kwoeltje (1322), Manchester, Missouri, USA

Nose of light yeast and plum, coriander with sweet molasses and caramel malts. Flavor of sweet fruit, light belgian yeast, tart and some malty blandness. Eh. Finishes with some balance but it’s not bad. ¾ (4999), Colorado, USA
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Aug 10, 2006 Dark brown and burgundy hues. Tan head. Rich and doughy toffee, mocha, dark roasted plums, molasses and some light charred malts tastes. Yeast is a little hard to fit in this beer, have to say it doesn’t work so well, but the rich toffee, molasses and stick malts are pretty nice. Not a proper dubbel by any means, but good for an experimental beer. Nose is light ash, dusty malts, with some light toffee and molasses - similar to the flavor - with some light yeast as well. A good one, but not my favorite VE from Stone.
