hopscotch (4578), Vero Beach, Florida, USA Jul 13, 2006 Bottle... Clear, crimson ale with a mid-sized, creamy, lightly tanned head. Good retention. The complex aroma is a swirl of chocolaty, vinous notes with a touch of burnt rubber, port, soy sauce, anise, clove and smoke. The flavor is chocolaty and toasted with dark fruits, molasses and alcohol. Decently-balanced by the hops and booziness. Full-bodied and creamy with lively carbonation. Finishes toasted and medium bitter. Pretty hot. Should age well, but I enjoyed it straight out of the Brickskeller’s cooler.
dogfish120love (76), west hartford, Connecticut, USA Aug 21, 2008 tasted fruity yet slightly funky. I definitly tasted the clove and spiciness noted in the beers description. Not a ersonal favorite. skoisirius (480), Seattle, Washington, USA Aug 19, 2008 Tasted around its release date and around the release of 777. The 666 is a great brew. Pours like a dubbel would be all silky and mildy dark. Deep fruity esthers waft off the beer in the malty plum and raisin context. Very smooth and sublte blend of slight roast, nuts, and lots of sweet dark fruits take over the palate with each sip. Definitely has a small lingering chocolate sense. Mild finish. Been hearing this one has been tasting good...glad I saved a few! BMan1113VR (905), Los Angeles (and Dallas, TX), California, USA Aug 13, 2008 On tap. Pours a dark brown with a large, off-white head. Great lacing. Aroma of coriander, dark malts, caramel and a bit of candi sugar. Taste is malty, coriander, some oxidation, hint of bananas, and some alcohol. Light bubbles and creamy. AgentSteve (831), SF Bay Area, California, USA Aug 8, 2008 Thin, dark brown pour wth decent tan colored head. Nose is arab and anis with a hint of licorice. The flavor is the same with a dry hoppy mid to finish. yespr (6889), Copenhagen O, Denmark Aug 7, 2008 From tap at Stone Bistro. Pours dark brown with an orange glare and a small lacing tan head. Spiced and slight roasted malt aroma. Fruity and mailty flavour - goes into a smooth chocolate flavour. Remains smooth and is joined by a mild spice note into the finish. Lovely.
