Commercial Description:
In this year's edition we took our inspiration from two Belgian styles: Saisons and Golden Triples. As such, the Stone 07.07.07 Vertical Epic has a deep, deep golden hue and the flavor is spicy, fruity, complex and refreshing. We used four different malts, and a subtle, yet distinct, blend of Glacier and Crystal hops to get just the right balance. Then, for the complexity, we added in some exotic spices --- including ginger, cardamom, grapefruit peel, lemon peel and orange peel (the latter three acknowledging our Southern California home) --- and a special Belgian yeast strain. All in all this is yet another case of us drawing from classic Belgian influences and cavalierly making it our own...San Diego style!

Lupulin Reunulin. amber, cloudy. aroma is fruity, flowery herbs. surprisingly dry for the abv, big caramel up front with citrus and yeast, but again, the dry finish makes this pretty damn tasty.

Bottle. Candy-sweet nose, musky honey undertones and some ginger. Clear gold pour with a thin head. Good sweetness with yeast and spice notes. Palate is a touch thin, but overall the beer is very drinkable.

Bottle, 22 oz. Deep golden color with a white head. Spicy and fruity aroma that immediately indicates complexity. Malty flavor. Different but interesting.

One of my favorite Tripel Style beers, too bad I don’t really like the style. Pours with a largish, foamy, white head covering a deep gold/orange body that is slightly hazy. A small layer of foam always stays atop the liquid. Decent lacing. Aroma has ginger, grapefruit, banana, vanilla, yeast, and a touch of cardamon. Good, sweet tripel taste, a bit metallicy, a touch oxideized as well. Great levels of alcohol and spice. Mouthfeel is a bit thing; there are sharp lively bubbles. A very pleasant brew that I wouldn’t mind to drink on tap next time I am down at Stone.

My Bottom Line:
Gingery spiciness and orangey fruitiness scent cool biscuity malts, as earthy hops brush this Belgian-style Strong Ale all the way to the finish.

Further Personal Perceptions:
-A wispy head slowly sinks into misty amber.
-The hoppy finish is lightly bitter, never overdone.
-Spiciness is not as predominant in this finish.
-This is quite clean overall and perhaps a tad too sweet and spicy for my personal liking in the style.
-This is obviously not trying to perfectly emulate the Belgian style; a distinct North American touch (mostly in body and carbonation) is perceivable throughout.

Bottle.

(Bottle, Akkurat, Stockholm, 24 May 2008) Golden amber colour with frothy, white head. Spicy, malty nose with ginger, cardamom, sweet gale and Seville orange. Fruity, spicy taste with notes of citrus peel, ginger and hints of yeast. Bitter-sweet with lots of spices. Medium body. Very interestning beer.

22 oz bomber-pours a light golden color w/a moderate white head. Sweet Belgian aroma. Kind of a classic Belgian Blonde, Sweet, spicy flavor w/traces of cane sugar, banana, citrus, peach/plum, & colander. A little bit of pepper as well. Not as dark or funky as the 06.06.06, a more traditional brew. It will be interesting to see how this ages as it’s kind of light & fruity. Long, sweet finish.
