Commercial Description:
In this year's edition we took our inspiration from two Belgian styles: Saisons and Golden Triples. As such, the Stone 07.07.07 Vertical Epic has a deep, deep golden hue and the flavor is spicy, fruity, complex and refreshing. We used four different malts, and a subtle, yet distinct, blend of Glacier and Crystal hops to get just the right balance. Then, for the complexity, we added in some exotic spices --- including ginger, cardamom, grapefruit peel, lemon peel and orange peel (the latter three acknowledging our Southern California home) --- and a special Belgian yeast strain. All in all this is yet another case of us drawing from classic Belgian influences and cavalierly making it our own...San Diego style!

A golden clear beer with a small white head that doesn’t last. Aroma is spice dominated with belgian yeasty notes. The flavor is so overwhelmingly spicy it hardly tastes like beer. I guess I missed the first instalments, but I probably won’t get around to giving this another chance in 4 years.

22 oz. bottle. Pours a murky, golden color with a ton of floaties. Very little head present. Floral aroma with hints of lemon peel. Funky flavor, some wet hay. Peppery finish.

POured a hazy golden color with a small off white head. Aroma was of alot of spices, candy sugar and some fruit. Taste was also fruity and spicey but very sweet and a little hoppy finish, very interesting and complex.

Copying from my tasting notes. Bottle. Dark golden pour with a small white head. Very spicey/citrus on the nose. Sort of bland taste through out with some light spices. Not great

A pretty good beer but not the best in the style or anywhere near stone’s best. Pours a nice gold with some amber color. Some nice spice on this beer but overall is not that memorable. As some other raters mentioned it does not really fit a style

bomber. pours a deep golden color with a thin white head... spicy aroma.... the citrus peels of grapefruit, orange and lemon are prevalent on the palate with the most spice up front. The hops and malts balance each other out to a mediocre body. Overall a nice beer, but not extremely exciting. Not one of Stone’s finest.

Dark, orangish brown with a small head which retain very well. Smells creamy, sweet fruits, banana, slight alcohol odor. The taste is sweet, spicy and a bit peppery. The mouthfeel is a bit thick, well carbonated and leaves a sweet coating on the inside of the mouth. This is very well balanced and easy to sip on but a bit of an overload to the senses if overconsumed.

20070630 Thanks Paul for sharing. Not too interesting. Doesn’t seem to fit a style. Too much spice for my taste, cardamom? Nice body though, too bad the heavy spice is spoiling it. Unctuous. Still a bit hot?
