Commercial Description:
In this year's edition we took our inspiration from two Belgian styles: Saisons and Golden Triples. As such, the Stone 07.07.07 Vertical Epic has a deep, deep golden hue and the flavor is spicy, fruity, complex and refreshing. We used four different malts, and a subtle, yet distinct, blend of Glacier and Crystal hops to get just the right balance. Then, for the complexity, we added in some exotic spices --- including ginger, cardamom, grapefruit peel, lemon peel and orange peel (the latter three acknowledging our Southern California home) --- and a special Belgian yeast strain. All in all this is yet another case of us drawing from classic Belgian influences and cavalierly making it our own...San Diego style!

2.2 year-old bomber. The girl that got away wasn’t even married that summer! A glowing reddy-orange pour with no lasting head is almost clear but looks thick - like molten colored wine crystal. glass. I’m getting flavors of candied citrus, licorice and maybe sarsaparilla, pale dried tart fruits such as apricot, A hint of banana esters, and peppery with lightly grassy hops. Great palate and overall fruit-spice aromas remind me of great Belgians such as DeDolle Arabier. Impressively rounded and multi-faceted. I may keep the 2008 for next year...

Bottle thanks to Robin ! Pours peach with a small head. Short retention. Nice colour. Nose is spicy cardamom and fruits. Lots of spice actually. Think pumpkin spice. Taste is spicy cardamom, fruits and alcohol. Quite warming. Some cloves and cinnamon also. Not really my thing Nice beer for a cold autumn.

Bomber. Pours a light reddish golden color that almost looks pink. Small bubbly head that fades quickly. Aroma of fruit punch, nutmeg, cardamom, apple juice, and a little yeast. This beer is spicy upfront, as well as in the aftertaste, with notes of cinnamon and nutmeg reminiscent of a pumpkin ale. Medium body that seems to thicken in your mouth, sweet brown sugar and sugar cane, citrus, and an alcohol-laden finish. A spicy little beer, this one is, which I didn’t expect. But, it’s a nice surprise, as it’s a cool evening and I’m in the mood for a autumnal-esque brew. Kind of wish I had another in the cellar.

Well this beer is as the label describes, golden. The head was a short oil slick on the surface. It smells kind of fruity, and kind of like a piece of bubblegum. This is a very good aroma. The taste has some spicy qualities but does not quite deliver on the aroma. The carbonation is a little prickly to the mouth and made the beer hard to down. It took me about two hours to finish the bottle. I will probably buy a couple more bottles for aging in the hopes that this improves. This wasn’t a bad beer but the carbonation just made me feel bloated as I drank it. 04/21/08 Nine months has done this beer nicely. Apples, grapes abound in both the flavor and aroma. Sticky, sweet, not quite tart. Very interesting and complex taste. This is aging well (so far). Serving type: bottle Reviewed on: 06-26-2007 16:10:01

Brewed in the USA... Courtesy of AFI96, thanks Waylo. Pours orange in color with a thin foamy white head. Aroma of ginger, malts and nutmeg. Taste is also of ginger, spices, yeast and bubblegum. The mouthfeel is medium in body with a flat soda finish. Something is really missing here?

Bottle shared with BeerGestapo. POurs a honey color with a small, quickly diminishing head. The smell is all ginger with a slightly sweet edge. The flavor had ginger, cola, and some Belgian yeasty esters. Wasn’t too impressed. Reminded me of an unsweetened Coke.
