Commercial Description:
In this year's edition we took our inspiration from two Belgian styles: Saisons and Golden Triples. As such, the Stone 07.07.07 Vertical Epic has a deep, deep golden hue and the flavor is spicy, fruity, complex and refreshing. We used four different malts, and a subtle, yet distinct, blend of Glacier and Crystal hops to get just the right balance. Then, for the complexity, we added in some exotic spices --- including ginger, cardamom, grapefruit peel, lemon peel and orange peel (the latter three acknowledging our Southern California home) --- and a special Belgian yeast strain. All in all this is yet another case of us drawing from classic Belgian influences and cavalierly making it our own...San Diego style!

Bottle from a secret source. Pours with a traditional hefe look with a cloudy golden hue. The nose is incredible, ripe banana, clove and ginger pop right out of the bottle. The flavor was fantastic with insane malts working in unison with the hops for a perfect balance. This one is a winner, and the best part of all is I’ve got 6 more that I’m gonna keep in the cooler for a few years, then they should be even more kick-ass! NICE BELGIAN STONE

22 oz. Bomber (trappist glass). Pours a cloudy honey-amber color with a small white head that dissipates quickly. Has notes of bananas, clove and cinnamon...it sort of resembles a hefe in a way. Smooth and silky on the palate. Has notes of apricot, ginger, and some hop character. Fruity and spicy. I thought there was some raisin in the finish. No alcohol present, and has a nice finish. Fantastic.

22 oz bottle that poured medium amber. smelled hints of vanilla, currant. Nice taste with some decent carbonation.Tasted like something was missing, and that kept it a notch away from being great. Read the bottle after I drank it and realized that I was drinking it 4 years early, lol. Oh well, it was good now.I’ll try to save the other one I got till then, wish me luck.

This has an unusual, fruity aroma - not the best aroma from Stone. But the flavor is really something. A fruity, bocklike taste dominates, with smoky malt in the background, and hops floating around the edges. There are hints of clove, banana, bubble gum, pear, and orange. I am not that experienced with the Belgians, so it is a little hard for me to compare, but this brew certainly clicked with me.

Stone Half Vertical, Popeye, 02.02.08. Deep golden color and in contrast to other years much more acidic nose with grapefruits really shining along with some oranges and lemons. The peels really added character to the nose over the spices. Tight body with spices, in particular ginger and caradom playing second fiddle to the fruits. Would age interestingly once it starts to open up.

Bottle. Pours golden with nice head. Spicy aroma, mild flavor with some spice, hides the alcohol well. Nicely refined.
