Commercial Description:
In this year's edition we took our inspiration from two Belgian styles: Saisons and Golden Triples. As such, the Stone 07.07.07 Vertical Epic has a deep, deep golden hue and the flavor is spicy, fruity, complex and refreshing. We used four different malts, and a subtle, yet distinct, blend of Glacier and Crystal hops to get just the right balance. Then, for the complexity, we added in some exotic spices --- including ginger, cardamom, grapefruit peel, lemon peel and orange peel (the latter three acknowledging our Southern California home) --- and a special Belgian yeast strain. All in all this is yet another case of us drawing from classic Belgian influences and cavalierly making it our own...San Diego style!

bottle-Poured a nice orange-amber hue with a thin white head. Aroma was a mix of spicy citrus notes and a nice grassy barnyard quality. Flavor seemed to be mostly spices with some lingering fruit notes. Mild carbonation on the palate, but still easy to drink.

Tap @ Stone Winter Storm ’08: Poured a clear amber color with an off-white head. Spice forward aroma. Clove over malt. Caramel malt flavor with a good bit of spice. Too much in the aroma and flavor for my taste. That should age down though as the heavily spiced Dogwood Winter did.

Bottle (75 cl), thanks to marsiblursi. Hazy amber with medium off-white head. Spicy and caramelly with aniseed, nutmeg, old spice, tangerine and oranges. Medium bodied and smooth. Ok balance. Well done but really nothing special.

Had on tap at Brews Cafe. Pour was a deep copper color. Very nice aroma of citrus and cloves. Taste was of the same with yeast, and sweet malts thrown in. A very nice strong ale.

(Bottle, thanks Degarth) Pours Copper amber with a creamy off white head. The aroma is fruity, light spicy, light yeasty and tiny hoppy with tones of citrus peel, ginger, cardamom, coriander, light floral, light herbal, mild caramel, pineapples, peach and pears. The flavour is citrus and mild spices up front with a sweet bready malt backbone. Medium sweet, light to medium bitter, light sourish and medium dry. The mouthfeel is well carbonated and clean. Citric aftertaste with a subtle yeast spiciness. Medium bodied.

Wow, almost like a hoopy belgian Tripel. I had a hard time drinking this beer, almost a buttery taste somewhere hidden in there. Very odd indeed, this will be a nifty little treat to taste in a few yearsI think, as I think this will be more like a THA.

22oz bottle. Deep, thick, amber-orange color. This one is heavily spiced, with lots of citrus and ginger flavors coming through. Also maintains a good farmhouse funk and rich Belgian yeast taste. A real quality beer. Strong pungent aftertaste. Reminiscent of great beers such as Stille Nacht in it’s quality sour and tangy notes. Great beer, one to stash in the cellar for sure.
