| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Jan 7, 2008 Bottle: Dark gold color, almost cloudy but still clear. Spicy, yeasty aroma with a citrusy, yeasty taste. I also noticed herbal spots amd mellowed out Indian spices. This style is really not my favorite, but I could tell the flavor was complex. I only wonder what it would taste like in 2012! robforbes (1099), Bremerton, Washington, USA

pour is a clear amber-orange with a small white head that goes away quickly, excellent lacing.
smell of hops, floral, spice, ginger, some fruit, touch of clove.
taste is of tangerine, spice, ginger, a hop or two, ends sticky.
overall an okay brew, just a little too much ginger. NeroWolfe (13), USA
| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Jan 6, 2008 22 oz bottle. Pours a slightly cloudy gold with small white head. Heavy Belgian aroma. Taste is a basket of fruit. Unique among Belgians I’ve tried, it expands the domain of flavors in the style. Should be an interesting step in 2012’s vertical tasting.

| 3.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 4/5 | 12/20 | Jan 6, 2008 22oz bottle. Orange with a small yellow head. Yeasty and quite citric aroma, just really fruity too. The flavor brings out a lot more spice than the aroma hints at, combined with lots of orange and lemon. Lots of fruity belgian yeast flavors too, over a sweet sugary malt base. Full and smooth palate. I’ve got to say that the spices and peels are a bit much. If this one was really designed to lay down for five years, I can see why it is so spiced. I have a feeling that it could mellow into a really nice beer. STEPHENDR (478), California, USA
| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Jan 4, 2008 Tasted on 7/12/07 -22 oz. glass bottle- color of honey gold, with a medium eggshell colored head - nose of yeast, spice, nutmeg, lime, and citrus zest – taste of yeast, allspice, honey, citrus zest and orange- body is medium, dry, and with medium to high carbonation – aftertaste of gummy, and orange zest- too much citrus will be a much better beer in a year or two jerc (3947), Toronto, Ontario, Canada
| 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Jan 1, 2008 Bottle. Very clear amber body with a small fluffy off white head. Mild aroma, light melange of fruit and spice, muted citrus and ginger. (6+) Similar flavour, spicy hints of ginger and caramom (though I don’t think I could have put a name to the latter without mention of it on the label). Muddy blend of citrus in the undertones, light triple-esque pale malt foundation. (6+) Smooth average palate. Meh. Decent, but a bit too mildly flavoured overall and does not do much for me. | 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Jan 1, 2008 22 oz. bottle from BevMo LaJolla. Pours bright and clear orangey amber with a small, fine whitish head that leaves some lace as it diminishes. Spice dominates the aroma with clove, ginger and cardamom, also citrus, candied fruits, interesting yeasts and spruce. Flavor is spicy sweet, pungent clove, ginger and nutmeg (?), orange juice, pine notes and flavorful yeasts and a bit of alcohol noticible. Medium to full body and assertive carbonation. This one is still a little over-done with spices right now (about 6 months after bottling), but may mellow as it ages more. I look forward to trying it again in 6 more months. beerheart (237), Erie, Colorado, USA
| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Jan 1, 2008 This is one of the nicer takes on the malty Belgian ales that I’ve tried, particularly by an American brewer, most of whom produce very disappointing results when making Belgian strong ales and trippels. this pours a cinnamon nut-brown with vibrant carbonation. Complex aromas of cinnamon, grapefruit, orange peel, ginger, all-spice. More spicy than fruity. Medium bodied yeasty mouthfeel. I’d say this leans toward being a heavily spiced witbier rather than a dubbel or trippel. It’s very nice. I bought several extras, which I will store and drink in a few years.
