Commercial Description:
In this year's edition we took our inspiration from two Belgian styles: Saisons and Golden Triples. As such, the Stone 07.07.07 Vertical Epic has a deep, deep golden hue and the flavor is spicy, fruity, complex and refreshing. We used four different malts, and a subtle, yet distinct, blend of Glacier and Crystal hops to get just the right balance. Then, for the complexity, we added in some exotic spices --- including ginger, cardamom, grapefruit peel, lemon peel and orange peel (the latter three acknowledging our Southern California home) --- and a special Belgian yeast strain. All in all this is yet another case of us drawing from classic Belgian influences and cavalierly making it our own...San Diego style!

(Bottle 65 cl) Courtesy of boboski. Hazy, pale golden with an off-white head. Sweetish aroma of fruit and caramel - and quite some yeast also. Quite full-bodied, sweetish fruity and very spicy - I detect some ginger. Dry and fairly hoppy finish with also the alcohol showing some muscles. Quite interesting and well crafted. 280907

Bottle sampled. Pours a deep gold with a thin off-white head. Aroma of toasted malt, citrus, and a spicy peppery yeast. Flavor was mild carbonation with coriandor, citrus, peppery spices, and a hint of brown sugar

Bottle. [Courtesy of Papsoe, quality tasting @ Papsoe] Average rocky white head that mostly diminished. Light cloudy body with a golden color. Very herbal, fruity spice feel over it, reminding me of a spicy/herbal/vegetable like style. Star aniseed and ginger are also present, with some notes of caramel, grain, floral and a hint of citrus. Medium bodied with a light dry texture and an average carbonation. Moderated sweet flavor with light notes of acidic and bitterness. Light dry and spice sweet finish. Very interesting beer. 28-09-2007

Clear copper-orange color, small mostly vanishing head. Spicey nose: ginger, orange peels, clove and cardamon. Par the flavor: citrusy, a bit bready, lots of different spices. Liquerish palate, quite sweet. Propably gets better after ageing.

Bottled. Deep golden colour, not much head. Aroma is really spices, lots of clove, ginger, orange peels, cinnamon and some slight hoppyness. Flavour is really spicy, mainly same as in aroma. Wellbalanced, refreshing and pleasant. Long spicy aftertaste.

Bottle. Golden pour. Pretty standard american take on a BSA, I think. Not bad but not impressive. Spicy and floral notes throughout, yeasty and clean malty finish. Worth having once.
